4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mattmc1973 (464) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - FEB 10, 2012
Snifter on tap at Penny Black in Rochester, MI. Dark orange with a thin off-white frothy head that stuck around longer than I thought it would. Aroma actually not that hoppy considering, but there is some resinous pine. Nose was more sweet with big caramel malt, peaches, and apricots. Taste was very sweet and sugary, but not cloying or overwhelming. Nicely balanced actually, good mix of sweet and bitter. Hides the 18% extremely well, I’ve had much "hotter" beers that had far less abv. Mouthfeel had nice medium carbonation, very smooth and drinkable. Good stuff!
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 DTM (589) - Winters, California, USA - FEB 9, 2012
Bottle shared with Timfoolery. Great full-flavored beer with hop and a great malt backbone. If you like the 90 minute this one is that much better.

I Love this beer!! It is a great beer, wow can I have another!! Head was light. Nose was great it did not smell at all thou it said “drink me and I did!!” Nose was a sweet malt, caramel, smooth hop. Taste GREEAAT! I need another bottle I drank it a little fast. But I did have a cotton candy after taste that stayed on my pallet for a while. Taste the sweet malt was like a sugar sweet but not cloying it wanted to be but not. Great beer Thank you JP

Removes from refrigerator and warm for about 25 minutes. Initial aroma hinted to the high alcohol but flavor was much smoother than anticipated.

Great hop citrus notes as soon as you pour this monster IPA, with lots of banana, butterscotch, & herbs, coming through as well. Very smooth with lots of rich body and surprisingly it’s not overly alcoholy considering its ABV. In moderation this is an awesome beer and a nice cross between the 60 & 90 min IPA.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Plovmand (4685) - Helsinge, DENMARK - FEB 4, 2012
Bottle at Hallinghansen Grand Tasting. Pours bit hazy deep golden with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet peaches, citrus, pine and loads of sweet malt. The flavour is very sweet and fruity with notes of sweet berries and warming alcohol. Bit sticky marmelade feel. Very sweet fruity and caramelish finish. Sweet and quite sticky overall but still drinkable. Thanks for sharing hallinghansen.

Wow. This beer is extraordinarily complex. Poured into belgian glass. Very little head despite aggressive pour. Not sure if that was just my bottle or common to this beer, but would like to see more to bring out that aroma.
Aroma is interesting: not a punch in the face like I was expecting, but rather a nice interplay of a few different hop varieties who have been dancing in the dry hop Soul Train. A little citrus, a little pine, and a little sweetness come through the nose.
The first taste is where things really get exciting. A big, carmelly sweet body. Much bigger than I expected. This backs up the hops really nicely, as it definitely does not taste too bitter. I’d say a Titan, with many fewer hops, comes through as much more bitter because of this nice body. Lingers on the tongue for a minute...definitely a little viscous. I also would not have guessed that this beer pushes 20% ABV. This may be one of the strongest beers I’ve ever had, but does not have the alcohol burn. Well done!
I didn’t understand why DFH says this beer ages well, which goes against everything I know about hops, but I can see why now. The substantial body and complex hop schedule will mellow over time into a nice sonada. I’ve got another bottle which I’ll sit on for a year or so to compare.
