4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 ScottB (73) - Bristow, USA - JAN 3, 2009
Bottled in APR 07. Pours a clear amber. Off-white head quickly dissipates leaving a bit of lace around the outside of the glass. Big fruity aroma. Dark fruit and spice in the mouth. The alcohol makes its presence known but is not unpleasant.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 keanex (341) - Williamstown, New Jersey, USA - APR 13, 2012
Poured into a trappist glass from a 750m bottle bottled on 12-29-2011.
A: Crystal clear copper body with a creamy light tan head with poor retention.
S: Sweet caramel, burnt candied sugar, ripe banana, slight cloves, and some fruity esters.
T: Light caramel, cocoa, and burnt sugar upfront with a mildly spicy cloves and fruity medicinal esters on the finish.
M: Thick and creamy.
O: I’m very impressed by this, perhaps America’s best quad.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Hair6a11 (1021) - Illinois, USA - APR 12, 2012
Bottle; Pour is murky dark brown / amber with a fine bubbled khaki head in this glass. Modest retention in this glass. The nose is very heavy on the fruit esters, caramel, toffee notes. Bready malts here. The flavor profile reminds more of a lager than a belgian. Its a bit off to me; either way , very heavy again on the fruity notes, dark fruits, plums I suppose; more caramel and sweet breads here. There is a belgian note but its feint to em. It’s sweet, a touch boozy, and heavy on the fruit esters. Different.. but...
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KyotoLefty (3760) - Kyoto, JAPAN - APR 9, 2012
2008 bottle. Rather oxidized flavor of honey, raisins, apricot and other fruits. Bready and full. Nice, but did not age quite as well as I had hoped. A bit too much oxidation.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 hopasaurus_rex (109) - Surprise, Arizona, USA - APR 8, 2012
Pours a murky golden/amber. Little to no head. Aromas of malt, raisins, dark fruits, candied sugar, and spices. Initial flavor is smooth, sweet and creamy. Has a nice spice to it towards the end. Big malty character, sugar, vanilla, plum, dark cherries, raisins and a little bit of fig. Mouthfeel is sweet and sticky. A solid beer. Worth a try.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jonno (1456) - JAPAN - APR 8, 2012
Bottle. 4 years old. Big apricot and hop nose. Very much in barleywine territory. Not too phenolic. Some toffee, alcohol, dark fruit, citrus and apricot. Yeah, this is a BW in all but name to me. Doesn’t have much in common with your phenolic quads and strong ales from Belgium. Very nice and very enjoyable., Rich. Perhaps was slightly too old and coming down the hill (peak at maybe 3 years?), so would love to try fresher. Thanks Kyotolefty!
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 omega (215) - NEW ZEALAND - MAR 30, 2012
Lovely fragrant nose and a pours a nice syrupy golden colour. Big raisin flavours come through which unfortunately don’t quite mask the massive amount of alcohol sitting in this beer. At 12% she is a beast of a beer.
1.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 Alex5 (7) - USA - MAR 18, 2012 does not count
In most of my reviews I won’t do....apperance, taste, blah, blah. This ale by Victory was very dissapointing. Maybe I haven’t had that many Quads, but this one wasn’t very good at all. No clue why it has a high rating.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 zgaier (291) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - MAR 5, 2012
Pours orange with a white head and aroma of malt and alcohol. Taste is sweet, of fruits, malt, spices, and hops with alcohol in the finish. Nice belgian ale from Victory.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jjgmd (295) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - MAR 5, 2012
Pours a rusty orange hazy color. Nice head with a floral sweet aroma. Taste is sweet and very well balanced with hints of vanilla and spices. Full of flavor with a nice dry finish. Nice Belgian Ale from a fine brewery. Quaff score 8 / 10
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Lightrider (70) - Bristol, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 4, 2012
Bottle from a case 2011, 12 bottles it’s number 8 with 7 left. They say it bottle ages 5 years so will let you now how good it gets. This one is over the top. It’s a mahogany on gold, with a thick head. Too many things going on here to pin down one. A very good beer. Victory is a great house.
