| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 26, 2009 bottle - pours dark brown with tan fizzy head, very lively. The aroma is chock full of spice, raisin, plum and a slight trace of alcohol, this is followed by a bit of earth, leather, fruitcake, caramel and brown sugar (not necessarily in that order ;) ) The flavor was sweet, nutty, spice bread and raisin with the warm alcohol feeling spreading as it went down (maybe just a tad too much).
Excellent beer.... alagnak (335), Littleton, Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Bottle. Beautiful beer, big dense chunk of sediment lodges in the neck, floaties galore in a nearly opaque brown. Nose is belgian yeast, dark plums, figs and slightly vinous. INitial flavor is the yeast and dark stone fruit, transitioning to a really complex mid-section where more caramel and toffee show up along with a ’grilled meat’ kind of character. Really nice. Slight but pleasant alcohol on the finish. World class. This is the first beer I’ve tried that seems worthy of discussing on this website. It is wonderful. It smells good and it tastes good. I’m not experienced enough yet to distinguish the separate aromas and tastes but the way it comes together is a very satisfying harmony. I’m not saying it is the best beer out there but it will make you happy while you are hunting the best down. TheDoctor (44), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 23, 2009 Bottle. Poured a slightly cloudy muddy brown with a thick light brown head. Aroma has a hint of alcohol, but more present are notes of dark fruits (plums and raisins) as well as some caramel. Flavor presents many notes with only a bit of alcohol, most present are plum, caramel and hazelnut. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 22, 2009 11/22/2009: Trappistes Rochefort 10... Aroma: Dark honey and caramel; dark fruitsl; suggestion of alcohol; smells deeper, richer, and more complex than the Rochefort 8; fortified red wine qualities. Appearance: Reddish brown color; opaque; thin darker beige-colored crown. Flavor: Tastes very much like the Rochefort 6 and 8 only a little more sweet and stronger overall; dried and dark fruits (date, fig, plum, raisin); some creamy vanilla notes; hints of hazelnut liqueur; borderline oxidation being noticable; the alcohol is there, but actually not as forthright as expected for being over 11%! Palate: Medium-full body; well-carbonated yet still fairly smooth. Overall: Quite good, but I am not really overly impressed; three years ago I used to think that this beer was expensive at $6.99+tax/bottle!

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Bottle thanks to Cavie. Muddy brown pour, again. Aroma is alcohol and chocolate. Flavor is yeast, malt, and alcohol. brikelly (6), New Hampshire, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 21, 2009 330ml bottle into a Chimay goblet. Now this is a beer to *savor*. Gorgeous dark color in the glass with a wonderful head that remains a long, long time. This incredible beer has a complexity of flavor that is quite intense, so it may be offputting to some..but not to me! The strong alcohol content exhibits itself in the taste, too. It’s a heavy beer that needs respect. Sip some in and breathe in some more air to really get this beer dancing on your palate. A top class beer.
