COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

330ml bottle, poured into Leffe chalice. Colour was very dark copper, with auburn edges, opaque. One finger tanned head, very good retention, had a small scar on top of the head from the pour. Aroma was initally musty, notes of grape, caramel, malt, medicine and brown sugar. The first thing I noticed after pouring was that a could smell the beer from a lot further away than normal. Tasted medicine, brown sugar, molasses and strawberry. Booze was so well hidden I wondered if the decimal point was too far to the right. Texture was very smooth and almost moussy, very light body, perfection. Overall exceptional, aroma, look and mouthfull can’t be improved. So far I’ve never had a better beer.

A nice beer but not really my style. Roasty, fruity, complex taste, but too boozy. Could’ve done a better job hiding the alcohol. "But this is 11%!!!" Lots of 11% beers, even simple DIPAs, do a better job of hiding the alcohol than this.

So easy to get, but quite some time since I had one. Years ago I was lyrical about this beer, but I really think it has changed in a not so positive way. (I know my references have changed as well, but still .....). Dark brown, can be clear, with a creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts , some sweetness and this typical herbal yeasty thing from which you can recognize a Rochefort. Not bad, but my first ratings (late 90’s) would give it a much higher score than I will give it now.

The high alcohol percentage shouldn’t scare you, it’s a very easy to drink beer with one of the greatest tastes ever! Dark brown beautiful color and the taste is very complex but extremely nice to drink. The fruits explode in your mouth while you can taste a sufficient bitterness.

Dunkelbraun mit Rotscimmer im Glas, beiger Schaum. In der Nase Karamell, Likör, Gewürze, etwas dunkle Früchte, belgische Hefen. Komplex und sehr elegant. Am Gaumen dunkle Früchte, Alkohol, Feige, Karamell, Likörsüße. Vollmundig, ausfüllend und klebrig.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer & Beyond, Tel Aviv. Hazy brown, low quickly diminishing beige head. Aroma of liqueur, cherry, very alcoholic, fruity, notes of honey, date honey. Heavy cherry flavor, very sweet, malty, yeasty, woody. Lively carbonation. Full body. Sweetish sticky aftertaste. Very nice.

Licorice aroma, cloudy dark brown with a small diminishing head, complex flavours very malty, long lasting flavour, has low carbonation very light to drink - smooth, considering the ABV was not at all overpowering it gives a great warming sensation

Served cool (set out of Fridge for 30 mins) Beer pours hazy dark brown, has a tall pillowy head and a carbonation strong enough to make the sediment "dance." Damp earthy/chocolate aroma. Creamy, slick feel with a medium-heavy body. Sweet, dark flavour with gentle a very bitterness. Very good beer.

Aroma is subtle, lightly fruity, nice dark coffee color with full head and lacing. Taste starts fruity and sweet with a full stout taste. Very complex, enjoyable beer.

It looks and smells good. Taste a little bit sweet (caramel, fruity), but mostly heavy bitter notes of chocolate and alcohol. It is good balanced. Although it’s clearly a good beer, it fails to interest me.
