4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle (330ml from Peckhams, Glasgow):
Lots of depth to it and plenty going on. Starting with some dark fruits, mainly raisin and plum along with a lot of spice and some burnt sugar. There is some alcohol to begin with and some chocolate with a bit of caramel too.
Dark brown colour that has maroon tinges in it and is topped with a bubbly tan head that starts about a thumbs width tall and halves in size where it stays for upwards of a couple of minutes.
Dark fruit and a lot of sweetness; there is dates, plum, raisins and sugar to name but a few. There is also maybe just a slight bit too strong an alcohol burn from it towards the end.
Medium bodied and very smooth indeed with medium to strong carbonation, a lot of spice and great depth with some alcohol but this is hidden well for the most part.
Almost perfect beer, if only it were ever so slightly weaker in the alcohol department it could be classed as unbeatable. It had it all, a great mix of flavours and with plenty going on and a huge alcohol content that was hidden a lot better than I would have imagined.

I prefer to drink this after I drink a like primer beer first like a Hoegaarden or Fat Tire. Probably just because, being a Trappist, the alcohol content is higher than normal. This beer is the best beer I’ve ever tasted, you don’t even notice the 11% alc because it goes down smoother than any beer I’ve ever tasted. Many people saying the head doesn’t stay, actually it does. Yes it thins out, but when I drink it there is a thin yet apparent head that remains the entire time.

Amazing beer, my favorite that gets better with every sip. Plum flavor is strong, and i love the sweetness that makes this quad so drinkable yet also strong

Amazing Belgian. Dark brown pour with a fast-fading tan head. Notes of sugar plumbs, candied sugar, brown sugar, raisins, dark fruits, yeast, and some spices. Barely noticeable alcohol flavour but it has an excellent warming effect.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Dark brown ale with medium head that goes down rather fast. Very rich complex aroma of plums, spices, candied sugar, more dark fruits. Taste is blackcurrant, spices, candied sugar, ripe banana peel, slightly astringent tartness, and with a huge spicy-peppery finish with a hint of banana peel and even grapefruit and a hint of bay leaf (or maybe just peppery). Still medium-bodied for this richness, but also heavy on alcohol, vinelike. Carbonation is very noticeable, but not too much yet. A fantastic beer and a true classic in the style, but a bit harder to drink than Bernardus due to its heaviness. I think Bernardus is a little bit more versatile.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice amber colored beer with fruity, bubblegum aroma and a brown long lasting head. You can feel a lot of alcohol in the taste which is quite bitter and also salty a bit.
I know I am supposed to love it, but it’s just not my style.

Delicious strong and rich beer. Sweet, plums, caramel. But maybe a little to sweet for my taste...

Poured from a 33 cl bottle. Very hazy brown with lots of sediment and off white head. Has a very good aftertaste. Almost no hint of alcohol. I could drink this all day!

Poured from 33cl bottle [29/01/2019]. Medium dark brown with beige head. Caramel, currant, plum, raisin. Medium body. Well balanced, but probably should’ve aged a bit.
