COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Bottle from Whole Foods Market, Coddingtown, Santa Rosa, California. Pours a dark brown color with reddish hues and a giant long-legged off-white head that diminishes slowly into a perfect lacing and film. Smell is yeasty, fruity with some earthy and lactic touches. Very complex! It has notes of toffee, milk, dulce-de-leche, blueberries, blackberries, black currants, raisins, overripe apples, liquor, banana with palm syrup, sour cherries... I could keep going all day. The earthy smell is more obvious after a while. Taste is incredibly complex and intense, showing different aspects in every part of the mouth. Sweet and fruity flavor that shows notes of berries, cognac, honey, toffee, earth and nuts. This is a collossal Abt. Highly warming, it leaves a trail of warmth down the throat and the esophagus. Finish shows some booze. Different and so much more complex than anything else I’ve tried so far.

Bottle 0,33 l. served in a tulip. Aroma: Sweet, chocolate, caramel, honey, leather, honeydew, dried fruit, plum, nougat, alcohol. Apperance: Pours a deep brown colour with a frothy amber head. Taste: Sweet, malt. Palate: Full body, smooth, tight carbonation. Warming alcohol aftertaste. A complex and great beer.

11.2 oz bottle, poured into a bell glass at approximately 50 degrees F. A: Pours like free-flowing molten caramel, and forms a massive four-finger frothy head that lasts a long while before eventually dying to a half-finger cap. Once in the glass, the beer becomes a thick, impenetrable fog of burnished bronze. The iPhone flashlight test reveals light seeping through only around the edges, which take on a ruddy-copper glow. Bubbles can be seen steadily rising from the bottom in that light. Impressive sheets of lacing cling to the glass. S: That is a heady bouquet indeed. Sweetness and booze are the initial impression, wreathed through with an array of fruits - cherry, plum, grape, and something that reminds me of a nectarine, not unlike a particularly confused orchard, or one of those odd Frankentrees being created these days. There are some hints of caramelized malt sweetness beneath. T: Quite in sync with the nose! I find myself struck right out of the gate with sugary sweetness wrapped around sweet boozy warmth, which fades slightly into the background as the rush of fruits thunder in. All the fruitiness of the aroma is present, along with some hints of over-ripe apple and dates. Malty sweetness can be detected, quietly filling in what few cracks and crevices the other flavors may have missed. The finish ends with a slight alcohol burn, which persists for a bit. M: Creamy-smooth, lush, rich, and full, this is a joy on the palate and tongue. O: I see why this beer receives the marks it does. While I am still more a fan of the St. Bernardus Abt 12, this is quite the malty, yeasty, satisfying experience.

Pours hazy dark brown with a beauiful thick beige long lasting head. Wow. Strong aroma that is quite intense. Malts, caramel, dark fruits, plums, bit of citrus hops, raisins, yeast... Like the tastiest smelling fruit cake ever made... Beautiful as well. Taste is spicy and moderately sweet with a clear sense of the caramel and the raisins. Some nuts far away, some honey... Beautiful alcoholic kick as well. Well hidden, yet so flavorful... Small bitter throughout the sip... Soft warmish mouthfeel near the end... Wow... Just, wow... Absolute ten. Beautifully full bodied as well with a lovely creamy mouthfeel. Extremely well balanced... Excellent. Overall seen, this beer deserves only one description: nectar of the gods. Softer than the Bernardus Abt 12, which makes this beer a little bit more tastier to me. But that’s just a minor difference.

I’m lucky to be Belgian and to live in Brussels. I can find this beer for 2,5 Euro in my grocery just 30 meters away from me. This is one of my favourite beer all time and what I like the most about this her is the Aroma. I haven’t tasted any other beer with an aroma better than this. Cheers : -)

Dark brown, large head. Strong aroma, with sweet accents (caramel). Full body, light carbonation. Solid taste, sweet and bitter. Taste reminds of cheese for some reason.
