4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 chainman (104) - - JUL 28, 2009
I am not being one bit generous when I say this is a near-perfect ale. No wonder this is becoming a staple in many bars around Toronto, and slowly spreading its fingers outward. Mill Street has a fantastic beer here.
Appearance is a flawless deep amber. Decent lacing, minimal head. Aroma is hops, a bit of dark fruit and some chocolate. Taste is very hoppy, but unlike so many others, the hops are expertly balanced with some malts that
bring through a gritty cocoa character.
I could not recommend a better all-around beer for people who know their beer. Good for any weather, and very refreshing. I feel fortunate that I can buy this stuff almost anywhere.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Digital_Aura (77) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 28, 2012
341ml bottle (from seasonal variety pack). Pours a weak head/ok lacing. Light colored orange-brown (Lovibond 12). Aroma of earthy malts, dough, and grapefruity hops. Tastes like citrus and cookie dough - odd how well balanced this is. It's slightly sweet but bitter, especially the finish. Good palate. Medium carbonation.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Gerbeer (134) - vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 28, 2012
341 ml bottle from Big Ridge. Pours a perfect ambler with little head. Roasted malt and caramel to the nose with hints of hay/grass. Nicely balanced toffee/toasted malt and hop flavors.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bunget (139) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 10, 2012
341ml bottle. Deep orange-copper colour. Big yellow head with low retention. Caramel aroma, hops and dried apricot. Bold taste of bitter hops and malt, dry. Enjoyable. I found myself to drink this one quite often as it’s widely available.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Tiger_08 (65) - Sarnia, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 7, 2012
May 6 2012. 341ml bottle pours a clear deep amber color with a finger of white head that settles down to tight cap producing nice lacing for a while. Aroma is toasted malts with some sweet maple and grassy hops. Taste is light caramel malty sweetness with some toasted malt notes and a grassy hop bitterness in the finish. Excellent carbonation leave a nice soft silky feeling on the tongue. More malt than hops, very good for an ale.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 WheatKing (172) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 25, 2012
As far as I know this is your best bet for an Ontarian ale which will please both the snobs and the lagerboys in your soiree. They set out to make a classic and succeeded. Great for sessions. Definitely a little more malty than hoppy but who’s complaining? Isn’t it said that it’s much more difficult to make a good tasting beer that isn’t masked by hops? Great blend of caramel/biscuit/citrus. The only reason I’m not rating it higher is that it’s just not one of my favourite styles... but it rates high within its style percentile and that’s the one that matters.

In the last five years, there is no other beer that I have consumed more of. It is, hands down, my favourite beer of all time.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 GT2 (3961) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 27, 2012
341mL thanks to solidfunk. Pours deep amber with a larger, beige head. Sheen appearance and rockier retention. Soapy lacing. Nose is decently hoppy, small orange peel, but dominated by sweet rolls and heavy malt. Taste is malt forward, sweet rolls, quite bready with hints of fruit juiciness. No soap, no cheesy hops, no stale candies, no stickiness. Not so bad. Should be moved to Amber Ale. Tannic, sharper palate.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 PatIrish (135) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 24, 2012
Bottle, amber, not a lot of head retention. Aroma is grassy, floral, I suppose some toaster malt. Very spritzy on the palate, towards that oft describes soft mouth feel. Okay.

341ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a finger of white head that settles down to some spotty lacing. Aroma is light caramel and toasted malts with some floral and grassy hops. Taste is light caramel malty sweetness with some toasted malt notes and a grassy hop bitterness in the finish. Medium body and adequate carbonation leave a nice feeling on the tongue. This is a pretty good pale ale that I thoroughly enjoyed sampling.
