COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fresh sour cherries (krieken) in two year old Lambiek. We use approximately 300 gr cherries for 1 liter Kriek. The second fermentation in the bottle is obtained through addition of a liqueur, made with beer and saccharose.

750 mL bottle.. 2009 bottle. Bottled September 1, 2011. Originally reviewed 4/20/2013. Bright pink with a faint pink head. Thick collar. Hazy. Really nice cherry aroma. Deep cherry. Oaky and vanilla is very strong. A ton of acidity but not a ton of funk. Tastes of sour cherries. Lots of oak. Vanilla. Funk is much stronger. Barnyard is more prominent here too. The cherries are the star of the show though. Dry, very sour. Medium body. Fantastic cherry flavor. Best characteristic of this beer.

05-05-16 // sample at Cantillon Quintessence 2015. Excellent deep red colour, funky sour cherry smell. Not to sour, the cherry sweetness overweighs.

A 750ml bottle at the brewery. 2013 sticker, bottled on 10th September 2015. Poured into a Cantillon tasting glass. It poured a slightly hazy dark ruby red with a three finger dark pink head and sparse lacing. Aromas of marzipan, cherry and almonds dominate with hints of biscuit. Only some light sour tartness. Tastes of cherry and almond dessert cake. Very nice. Light sour, tartness, oak and a touch of sweetness. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall another stunning Lou Pepe variety with great balance. Easy to drink and refreshing. I tried Framboise on the same day and not to take anything away from the Kriek as it is still really really good, but the Framboise was near perfect.

Rating #1897 - 2015.09.20 - Bottle for ZwanzeDay2015 - Bottle is (2013). Pours a bright pinkish-red with a bubbly white cap. Aroma is cherry jelly, sugar. Palate is more cherry sweetness - nice tartness - a well achieved fruit sour that begs attention to detail. Girlfriend approved.

Merci à Marc-André pour le partage. 2012 sticker.

Bottle. Thanks, KL. Two ratings here, for two vintages compared side by side. 1) 2001 Vintage. Toasted or scorched bread aroma, some smoke, char, wood, mold, and leather. Thin hazy reddish-brown color, thin pink head. Flavors of tart sour cherries, sour celery, mild acidity, and some vinegar. Thin body, with mild astringency. Very unusual nose (we discussed the provenance of this feature and sort of left it unresolved). Flavors are sourish, acidic, and rather diminished from the 2008 vintage, but still interesting and solid. This one has held up. Rating: 10/3/8/4/16 = 4.1
2) 2008 Vintage. Generous funky manure, very rich cherry nose. Bright red color with a 2-3cm. pink head and good lacing. Moderately tart cherries in initial. Flavors get brighter and deeper in mid palate. Some nuttiness emerges (almonds?) along with spice in late mid and finish. Thin, with light astringency. Wow! This old beauty tastes and smells as fresh as a one-year-old beer. Seriously, a great beer.
