Great barley wine, glad I bought it. I really like it. Wish I had more around. I got it at a special store at a high price...

On tap at the First St. Alehouse. It pours a dark reddish orange color with an off white head. The aroma is sweet with mixed berries, caramel and a little brown sugar. The flavor is the same with lots of fruity berries, a little mango, papaya, brown sugar and caramel. Sweet and fruity. Pretty thick on the palate as well. Kinda simple, but not bad.

Bottle @ Post-Easter Procrastination, Ulfborg. Pours hazy darkish amber with small off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and fruit, with notes of hops, touches of yeast and caramel. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, with notes of vanilla and barrel and touches of hops. Sweetish aftertaste with bitterish notes. Well-balanced and pleasant.

65 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Konttori. Bottled on 18.07.2012.
Pours clear copper color with a medium sized head. Pine needles and caramel on the nose, sweetish fruits, resin, the hops have vanished almond completely. Sweet orange and caramel malts on the flavor, some resinous hops, quite faint on the flavor too. Very smooth and quaffable, alcohol dangerously well hidden. Tasty.

Old Embalmer ’12, bottled 7/19/12. I’m tellin’ you, this Total Wine carries some old sh*t. I just bought it last week. But for once, an old beer on the shelf is a good thing. This has aged gracefully and is unbelievably smooth. This goes down devilishly delicious, without a high-alcohol burn, instead drinking like a finessed nightcap. (#5949, 3/27/2015)

Light amber with an off white head - Swwet malt aroma - Nice sweet malt body with hints of hops and bitterness - The sweet mlat goes into the finish with some alcohol heat as well - This was good

Bomber pour@BKL ’15 München, FR. Atomic US barley wine style caramels, thinned out and recharged with citrus resins, vanilla and cassonade blonde. Tastes like refined white sugar, reduced with vanilla and grapefruit juice. Well done I guess, but the single-minded US barley wine to me always tastes like the soda of choice custom-tailored to brony alcoholics with a 7 year old’s sweet tooth. The lack of a living, breathing yeast profile in these clinically clean postmodern pieces of brew-engineering brings to mind an oldschooler’s adage: "There is a crack in everything / that’s where the light gets in". No crack here, seek redemption elsewhere - kids just wanna be precision-embalmed.

Bottle ’12. It poured a clear amber color with a white head. The aroma was of caramel, toffee and some hops. The taste was malt forward with hops, molasses, honey and brown sugar.

My Bottom Line:
Sugar-smeared grapefruit dominate this hoppy Barley Wine’s lightly caramelized cereals, as delicate alcohol warmth and bitter resins seal each sip.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the hazy pale red.
-This is not oxidized at all even though it is over 2 years old and doesn’t have a ton of specialty malts and residual sugars to camouflage the potential cardboard notes.
-This must have been intensely hoppy when fresh. More of a Imperial Red IPA than a classic Barley Wine.
-The grapefruit rind flavors are quite prominent.

Bottle. 2012 vintage.
