4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Super!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Type: 8-oz. draft
Glass: Clear snifter glass
From: AleSmith Brewing Tap Room in San Diego, Calif.
Purchased: Jan. 9, 2016
Consumed: Jan. 9, 2016
Poured a dark mahogany color with two fingers of khaki tan, rocky head when I got it. Good spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Good retention on the top all the way down. (Smell - 4.25)
Smelled boozy scotch caramel, toffee, dark fruits, plum and roasty nuts. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted roasty malts, caramel, toffee, scotch notes, but not as pronounced as the nose, dark fruits and some dates. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium-to-full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This was a very good beer for the style. Would have it again for sure. (Overall - 4.00)

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
While the year AleSmith’s Wee Heavy helped to bring in was new, the beer itself was pretty old - well over a year of age. The year will inevitably prove to be just another shitty year. The beer was a thing of beauty. Dark brown pour with an impressive head for the booze and age. Aroma of toffee, dark fruit, toasted malt, and chocolate cake. Flavors of smoked malt, charred caramel, roasted grains, and cocoa. Surprisingly, some hop bitterness was preserved. Not surprisingly, the booze note was warm and robust. A hell of a beer to aid the transition into the new year.

750 ml bottle from craft beer cellar shared with dad A: caramel, licorice, red fruits, prunes app: reddish brown with small beige head t/p: full body with sweet and long finish. Soft carbonation. Close to sticky O: a really good scotch ale. Complex it gets even better when it warms. Glad I bought this beer of exception.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750ml bottle consumed in NYE. Darker ruby, nearly black. Strong consistent tannish head. Nose has scotch and peat present. Little bit of chocolate in there as well. Taste has similar elements leaning on a heavy dose of chocolate with a good alcohol warmth. Roasted notes and malty forward essence. Dark fruit like prunes chine through. Feels like the type of beer that would knock you out but I’m a more than a wee bit of a fan.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Rich and back-to-dark-purple in the glass. Aromas of raisins, dates, grape musts, syrup, pine. Full and even lush on the palate, with a long finish. Brings the saltiness out of cheese. Currants, raisins, figs, and totally delicious.
