4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle into signature glass. Presents deep amber with a finely bubbled just off white head that laces nicely. Aroma is yeasty (earthy, leafy) and malty (toasty subdued honey) with fruity hops (oranges mainly), Belgian candy sugar and alcohol. The palate is smooth and creamy with a fullish body and a perfect balance of bittersweet malt and fruit. Finishes long and dry with an alcoholic warmth. Delicious mouthfeel. One of the best Belgian Abbey Tripels.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Julio’s. Poured into a snifter. A clear deep honey color with a frothy off-white head that settles to a thick lace. Aroma of honey, spice with some alcohol. Complex flavor. sweet apricot, honey, spice. Dry bitterness. Good yeast profile. Very dinkable. Nice stuff.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Abbey beer since 1988, with a thick, sticky, cream white, dense head, relatively stable in relation to the ABV; colour warm orange blond, clear with hardly any visible fizz, hazy with deposit. Sweet fruity aroma of orange liqueur, pineapple, gin, overripe peaches, honey, cloves, rose petals, wodka, toasted bread. Sweet onset, candied orange, banana, mango, smooth and supple palate with medium carbo, minerals, fresh sourish touch, soft caramelly and bready malts, finish with a grassy hop bitterness but especially a strong, warming, gin-like alcohol effect which even becomes a bit wry. Would have been a lot better with better hidden alcohol and more hops, now the sweetness cloys a bit too much and the end is too alcoholic for my taste. Still a lot more ’honest’ than its Leffe or Grimbergen counterparts.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is sweet. You feel the alcohol in a really god way. Its herbal, floral and balanced throughout and bitter in the end. A quality beer, without a doubt.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
330 ml bottle, rated 2014-09-09 @ Strasbourg
Orange clear beer with big white head. Aroma has Belgian yeast, apricot, honey, clove and ripe banana. Flavor is yeasty, fruity and sweet. Palate is quite full and foamy in the mouth. Finish has mild bitterness with aftertastes of alcohol, yeast, spices, fruits and port wine. Quite decent tripel with too much alcohol, nothing special.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Carrefour, Nice. Hazy amber-brown with some bubbles for an extremely small head, and a small carbonation. Fairly strong tasting, which subdues some of the potential flavour. There’s a small sweetness in the nose and taste.

This is one of the best beers available on the market on just about every level. I prefer the No. 8 offering called Brune/Bruin due to my taste for darker beers, but this is my favorite triple.
