This Abbey Ale proves why Abbey’s are renowned for top quality. On the poor you get a nice seasoned and nutty aroma with a chestnut color. The taste of this fine Ale supersedes the aroma (which is already amazing)! It has a full body with a flavor of roasted nuts and a lingering palate that drives you to sip after sip! Perfect for a nice cold winter day!

Aroma has some sweet apples, malts and nuts. Pours dark amber with a white head. Taste is very sweet with malts and fruits, and a little acidic. Sticky palate, lingers in your mouth. Overall a decent beer, though it doesn’t taste very much.

Big bottle from total wine and spirits with commonmac and rosskyle. Cloudy plum Color with off white head. Sour dark fruit aroma with funkiness. Yeast, dark fruit, slight Belgian yeast and sourness, and fuzzy finish. Fills out their portfolio well even if it’s not as great as the 8, 10, 12.

commonmac (614) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAY 15, 2015
Bottle purchased at Total Wine & Spirits. Poured into Belgian glass. Aroma is kind of a cola, plum/dark fruit. It’s a murky, mahogany/brown color with tan head. Little bit of a funky, yeast or borderline sour quality. Nice round mouthfeel that almost has a velvety characteristic. Malty with dark fruit at the finish. Pretty solid but others in the St. Bernardus family are better.

Served out of a bottle at Mac's house. Dark red color with medium white head. Sweet plum aroma. Medium to light body. Raisin plum sweet flavor but weaker than other St. Bernardus beers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Plums, stone fruit, with some spice. Clean and a bit thin but classic dubbel. Beautiful malt character.

Pours a dark chestnut brown initially with big foamy tan head which quickly goes. Aroma is initially a noticable cola type smell followed by berry type fruits and figs, doughy yeast and cereal malt with a slight herbal presence. Taste is initially sweet then sour and bitter, nicely balanced. Lively carbonation and slick feel. Very nice Abbey Dubbel beer!

33cl bottle at home. A mild, even light and good to drink Belgian dubbel. It is a bit of a minor beer in the St. Bernardus series. Yet as a dubbel, a very lovely drink with well balanced sweet bitterness flavours - and of course with the so typical chestnut scents and brown sugar notes.
