COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

This beer was fantastic. I think I’ve had it before but this was great. Tasted like grapes, sweet, but not too sweet. Dark and very aromatic. Splendid.

Pours dark brown colour with fluffy tan head. Aroma is yeast, dark fruits, caramel. Taste is the same, with also some bread in it and a malty quality to it. medium to full body. Nice alcohol warmth, alcohol is not overpowering. Nice lingering aftertaste. Not as complex as the Westvleteren 12 to which it is often compared to, but nevertheless an excellent quad!

On draft at the Hungry Monk in a chalice. Pours a crystal-clear dark amber. Heavy raisin, currants, brown sugar, and banana-like esters on the nose. Complex taste of caramel, oak, raisin, a bit of green apple, some spiced rum, and cinnamon. The booziness and spices really pop as the beer approaches room temperature. Smooth body with a bit woody texture. One of my favorite quads.

Pours a rich dark reddish brown with a very pale brown bubbly head. Very complex nose, lots of candy sugar and dark fruit up front, very sweet, a yeasty breadiness, ripe bananas, slightly boozy with a hint of pine resin. Wow, rich caramel and plum taste up front, quite sweet, ripe fruits, the alcohol is hidden well, and very subtle hop bite at the end. Medium bodied, high carbonation. Perfect balance and really delicious.

UPDATED: MAY 18, 2013 Bought a 330ml bottle at Bert’s Bierhuis. Aroma of caramel, banana and raisins. Brown beer with a nice red glow and a creamy head, and is highly carbonated. Taste of caramel, bananas, raisins and candy. Has a sweet taste and a bitter aftertaste which are well balanced. Overall, this is one of the best beers I’ve ever tasted.
