4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Doghair (125) - Illinois, USA - FEB 8, 2013Poured into a Chimay chalice. Dark brown with a thick inch of foam that seems to last forever. When I first put the glass to my nose all I could smell was green apple, wonderful. The taste is just amazing. Carmel, dark fruit some green apple. Had to describe. Mouthfeel is medium with lots of carbonation. Halfway through the glass and there’s still a quarter inch of foam. This may be one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Simply amazing.

33cl bottle from Beer-shop.it. Pours copper, yeasty opaque, with light beige foam, thin, thick and persistent. Fine, complex and intense on nose, with pear, caramel, spices (cinnamon, pepper), slightly toasted malt (biscuit), fruits like cherries and very slight solvent when it warms. In mouth is even more intense, persistent, warming, sweet but not too much, with all the flavours that were on nose. An explosion of red fruits, spices, burnt caramel, berries, nuts, almost tannic, vinous character, with a slightly dry finish. Strong alcohol is well hidden. Good body but thinner than I would expect. Quite well done example of belgian dark strong ale.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 McTapps (1624) - Ruhrgebiet, GERMANY - JUN 15, 2013
Bottle bought at our last trip to Belgium at Stassen Vin in Aubel. Had so great hopes into this one, that I didn’t open it until all the other beers were drunken. And it really was worth it: Unclear dark brown colour with low head and smooth body. Nose of dark nuts and malt. Taste of high fermentation, Belgian yeast, malt, nuts, torf, roasted caramel and roses. Easy and really nice to drink, you don’t notice the strong alcohol at all. Flowery and fruity finish. Great one and I’m looking forward to get some more St. Bernardus beers in the near future.

Pouring in deep brown with a huge, fast disappearing head. Starts of with alcohol, peaches and some caramel. Bit spicy in the back. Thick beer with full body. Nose is ok, but the taste is really fine. Complex mixture with some herbs. Good one for sure. Not the best ever but there is some rocket science in the making.

I thought this was a very good beer in the taste area I like, I recommend this to drinkers who like a sweeter beer without the bitter hops
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Andy_ (138) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 10, 2013
Dark brown colored beer with some beige head. Complicated aroma and taste with sweetness and dark fruity notes and some yeastiness. Strongly carbonated and alcohol comes through a bit.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 brystmar (517) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JUN 9, 2013
Another perennial favorite from my days drinking exclusively Belgians.
Awesome fruity, bready, spicy, typically Belgian aroma. Surprisingly jammy. Fruit and spice sync up on the palate, joining the strong malt backbone to yield a sweet, fruity, mildly boozy overall profile. Warms the back of my throat as I swallow.
Good stuff. This, Rochefort 10, and Westy 12 have a stranglehold on the style.
