COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

Opened a gusher that pours a deep dark brown with a foamy, off white head that dissipates a bit too quickly. Malt aromas are of dates, prunes, and sweet spice; I cannot detect any hop bouquet. Flavor is all fruity malt, mostly cherries and persimmon, without being too sweet and a hint of grain husk in the middle. Medium to full body. The hops make their presence known in the finish with a hint of cleansing bitterness. Overall very good quad that should be at the forefront of any Belgian diplomatic venture.

Quickly disappearing head. Dark hazy amber. Smells like figs, dades, banana and other sweet fruits. I had rather high expectations because of its comparisons to Westvleteren 12, and i was disappointed. It sure got some of the same typical belgian characteristics, but do not at all show the same mad balance.

Pours a deep, murky brown with a massive off-white head with excellent lacing. Mild aroma of yeast and grain with some earth tones as well. Good flavor and body. Flavorful without being too heavy. Great and easy drink.

De största upplevelserna i livet låter sig sällan komprimeras till två eller ens tvåtusen meningar. Alldeles för mycket faller mellan också det mest finmaskiga språk. St. Bernardus hör sinnevärlden till och bör där få förbli.

Pours a cloudy dark brown, with a creamy off-white head. On the nose is yeast funk, caramel, raisin, dark fruit, and grassy hops. Mouth feel is thick and chewy with good carbonation. Taste is caramel, leather, black cherry, plum, piney hops, dark chocolate, tobacco, spice, orange peel, and some light phenols. Finishes long and boozy, leaving dark chocolate and hazelnut. An incredible beer. So rich and complex

This beer has everything that is needed. Pours beautifully, gives a nice foam, aroma is wonderful, tastes strong enough with multiple different aromas. After Westy 12 best Quadrupel so far.

(2010 12oz bottle from LCBO) Poured near cellar temp, a very dark brown with a voluminous, pillowy tan head that persists. Aroma is predominantly dark brown sugar (muscovado?) from the malts, with just a faint hint of yeast and none of the expected dark fruit or spice complexity. Flavour followed the aroma almost exactly, and was sweet with a hint of bitterness at the finish. Mouthfeel was very full, and the carbonation soft and creamy, with no detectable alcohol at all. Very well-balanced but the expected complexity was completely lacking, very straight-forward and unidimensional. Given the rave reviews I am attributing this to degradation during cellaring though the beer is not particularly old. Will review again after another sample.

330ml bottle. Oversized glass. Enjoyed on may´12 & at least once a month. Pours brownish copper in color. Chill haze. Off-white, medium bubbled, slowly dissipated head. Nice lacing collars. Sweet toasted malts, spices, cinnamon & sugar to the nose. Esters are ripe fruit-like both in flavor & aroma. Full body with medium-high, no puckering, carbonation. Smooth warming ABV. Creamy sweet spiced mouthfeel. Harmonious malty body dances with alcohol. What can be said about a, probably, one of the best spots of the Belgian ABT/Quad style!
