Growler BIG thanks to piscator34. Shared at a tasting. Growler tasted in November 2011. Growler was a few months old then.
Appearance : Pitch black with medium brown creamy head.
Aroma : Nice molasses, awesome molasses I should say. Biscuity roasted malt.
Taste : Amazing molasses with roasted malt. Chocolate and coffee. Great hops on the finish.
Palate : Amazing creamy palate with soft carbonation.
Overall : Wow this is good. Very complex both on nose and taste. Finish is delightful with the rich molasses and chocolate/coffee notes. Very rich but not overly sweet. Very drinkable. To me, this feels richer than Speedway and less sweet than Dark Lord and maybe Abyss. Amazing complexity, amazing balance and elegance. Stunning.

Bottle from trade poured a dark chestnut color with a thick covering of mocha head. Aroma has some sourness, dark malts, roast, and some barrel wood. Mouth feel is thin for the style and there is plenty of carbonation. Flavor unfortunately confirms the nose with sour tartness, cherry, dark roasted malt, and some heat. This bottle is definitely infected:(

Thanks Chris. near black, but no lights around so can’t tell for sure, rich tan head that lasts. Nose is light oat and chocolate, heavy sugar, but bland. Bit green and plastic. Flavor is hot, some anise and orange at front, heavily sweet, also fudge and oats mid with a sticky, plastic and bubblegum sweet airy finish reminiscent of KtG. Rich, silky body,

Of the first craft beers ever on the porch on a cool spring night. Pour is opaque black with a dark tan head and a few large bubbles on top of a thick head. The nose is rather sweet, a touch green and a note of plastic. There is a faint touch of coffee bean along with some fruity berry sweetness. The taste reminds me a bit of kate the great with a very similar texture. Smooth and velvety, clean soft finish on a great full body. It has a nice berry characteristic but a faint touch of plastic. The flavor isn’t overly complex, it is actually rather simple but it has a subtle quality that makes it inviting and drinkable.

Pours a dark brown/black, with plentiful mocha foam. Nose is very nice - subtle bourbon, vanilla, a bit of roast, and molasses. Feel is superb. Creamy, medium-heavy bodied, rich. Perfect. Taste is awesome. Bourbon, creamy, a bit of bite, malt, bourbon, molasses. Awesome beer.

On tap at brewpub pours dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Aroma chocolate, burbon, coffee, and roasted malts. Texture is slick and smooth. Taste of chocolate, molasses, bourbon present but not overwhelming and balanced nicely, finishing with an earthy bitterness. Very nice!

I’ve had this a few times now. The most recent vintage is not as impressive as the past. Maybe the barrels were older and dry, not sure... Still a nice beer though. Purs a dark black with a small ring of head. The nose is chocolate and bourbon. Taste is similar although the bourbon is not that prominent compared to earlier vintages. Mouth is slick and oily not too thin not too thick, very nice overall. I think this is a great beer but wish it was a bit hotter.

From notes. First reviewed 2/23/2011. Poured from a growler into a tasting glass. Out of the growler, this pours nearly black with walnut edges. A foamy tan head exhibits modest retention and leaves some light lace behind. The aroma is full of roasted malt, some raisin and other dark fruits, cocoa, and some milk sugar to go along with the oak, vanilla, and light bourbon aroma from the Jack Daniels. The flavor start out nicely with roasted malt with some milk chocolate, brown sugar, and raisins. A quick transformation leads to a vanilla and bourbon flavor, which remains through the rest of the sip. A little bit of oak is there as well, but it is not that noticeable. The finish nicely sweet. The smoothness is one of Czar Jack’s strengths. The sticky and creamy feel are a little bit over the top, dragging each sip out a little bit. The medium to full body could be improved if the stickiness was cleaned up a bit. The flavors here are quite nice, the only true detractor is the overly sticky feel. Still a quality brew, and I was fortunate enough to participate in sampling this growler.

On draft at Town Hall. Not much in the nose, nice head and dark lacing. Mouthfeel is great, thick and sticky without being sweet. A very nicely balanced BA RIS. Too bad I didn’t get any tickets to get bottles this year. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
