4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle (750 ml) 2009. Share by JulienHuxley, thanks Julien & Pier-Luc! Black with a small long lasting beige head and some lacing. Aroma of bourbon, caramel, toffee, vanilla and wood. Similar to the regular Speedway Stout, with coffee replaced by bourbon. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a perfect amount of bourbon, caramel, toffee, vanilla, chocolate, liquorice and dark fruits notes. Smooth mouthfeel with a pleasant warming/burning alcohol. Like most Alesmith beers, the balance is absolutely perfect and this one is even more complex than the regular version. It’s really the kind of beer I want to have on hand when returning from snowshoeing on a cold winter day.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle - Boozy barrel, molasses and roast malts. Jet black with a thin brown head. Boozy bourbon notes, intense coffee and syrupy molasses. To overpowering and big, you lose any subtly or flavours that should be there. I prefer the original.

Bottle Craft clerkenwell RBESG14. Black beer lasting tan head. Vanilla chocolate sponge cake. Still a great base beer. Lovely chocolate not sure the barrel ageing helps. Vanilla. some heat om finish. Not as good as the original.

Snagged a bottle of this from across the border in WI. Spendy! $42 damn! Awesome beer though, subtle on the booze and tastes like a less strong BCBS.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
2013 vintage. 750 ml bottle into a snifter. Pours a pitch black with a finger of light mocha foam. Nose is dark chocolate, espresso, light licorice and tons of bourbon. Vanilla, oak, and sugary marshmallow. Smells hot. The taste is smooth chocolate leading into slightly faded but not stale coffee. Vanilla and oak linger in the background. Great balance of sweetness and roastiness. Incredibly creamy and smooth mouth feel. This is a top notch barrel aged stout, and probably just a notch below fresh BCBCS. Can’t imagine how good this must be fresh or any of the variants.

Amazing! Thanks to joedevivre for the share and 600th rating. Oily black pour. Nose dances with coffee, chocolate, oak, vanilla, caramel, leather. Taste is equally wonderful. Fair sweet but cut by the booze and little bit of bitterness. Heavy mouthfeel, but great for sipping.
