4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
HUGE thanks to Kevin for sharing this growler with us!
A-Body is big, thick and opaque black. Pours with a 1-2 finger creamy dark tan head. Head fades eventually to a thick collar but plenty of lacing sticks all the way down the glass.
S- Exceptional. A delicate balance between bourbon BA characteristics and IRS characteristics. Very complex and slightly sweet-of moderate strength. Vanilla, oak, a slight hint of bourbon sweetness, dark chocolate, anise, dark fruit. Just wonderful.
T-Flavor is just as good as the nose but adds a slight roasted malt component to it. Upfront is a lot of IRS characteristics-dark fruit, anise, licorice, dark chocolate-and offers a bit of vanilla and bourbon sweetness and the slightest hint of oak in the background. A hint of roasted malt comes through for the finish to create an equal balance to the slightly sweet initial flavor. Some remnants of the initial flavor linger as well as a slight roasted malt bitterness.
P- Low to medium carbonation and a body that is thick, viscous, and exceptionally smooth and creamy.
O- This is one of the best stouts I have ever had. The BA components compliment the stout characteristics very well and this is worlds better than regular speedway-seem like 2 completely different beers. The flavors are really big here but it is not nearly as aggressive as regular speedway. Great to try the 2 side by side!

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Köpt @ Systembolaget. Fantastisk öl. Tydlig, men inte för aggresiv, ton från fatlagringen som gör sig bra i såväl doft som smak. Bourbon, choklad och vanilj. Lite rostade toner. Döljer sina 12% ABV mycket bra.

First time reviewing this, but third time tasting it. Picked this over Vietnamese Coffee variant, assuming I would get to have that next (this did not happen). Loved it the last two times I tasted it and expecting at least a 4.50.
Poured a black color with one finger of khaki tan head when I got it. Minima lacing on the sides of the glass. Average retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled toffee, smooth milk chocolate, buttery bourbon syrup, caramel, roasty malts and wet cocoa powder. (Smell - 4.50)
Tasted much boozier than the smell. Super hot from the get-go. Bourbon heavy, chocolate, toffee, caramel and smooth dark milk chocolate. Bourbon was just overwhelming. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Boozy, warming finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Not quite as good as the last few times I had this at AleSmith. Not sure what it was, but picked a bad time to review this. Will have it again for sure though. (Overall - 4.25)

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: APR 8, 2016 Pours oily black color, slightly haze, with foamy brown head. Visually low carbonation. Aroma is rich and complex: where to start? Dark and roasted malts aroma, with notes of dark chocolate, toffee, molasses, coffee, cocoa beans, hazelnuts, hop aroma with notes of dark, stone fruits, like cherries, berries, plums, prunes; then bourbon, vanilla, wood, etc....
Flavor: complex and rich as aroma or even more: prevailing notes of coffee, bourbon, dark malts, hops...they takes on all ingredients, which I mentioned by aroma, but they are perfectly balanced in one unit. Body is full, texture silky smooth, carbonation is low. Finish is sticky, dry, slightly bitter. Alcohol warmth is gentle noticeable. Incredible! For sure one of the very best imperial stouts!

Roasted aromas of whiskey and wood. Deep dark beer with creamy brown head. The creamy roasted flavor is thick and carry the vanilla bourbon softly. Really good.
