Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Foundersí robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. Itís a lover, not a fighter.

Black with creamy brown thick head that lasts the entire glass. Chocolate and coffee in aroma and taste, that has a great bitterness to it. Probably the best porter Iíve ever had.

"robust enough to blur the line between porter and stout. very nice balanced mix of chocolate, roasted malts, and hops on the nose and flavor. the aroma & flavor especially donít get much better in style. very well done."

I donít want to open any can of worms on the difference between porter and stout, or lack thereof, but this is the heaviest biggest porter Iíve ever had! It tastes a lot heavier than 6.5%abv, though the alcohol isnít strong, itís just the big residual gravity and full body. Nose is very big on bitter chocolate, so is flavor. Nose has a hint of a box or raisins but they arenít there in the flavor. Flavor tends more toward dark choc, espresso. Despite the full body the beer manages to have a balanced, almost semi-dry finish, so thatís good, not overly sweet. There is a remarkable amount of body and flavor crammed into this moderate strength beer, which is a feat unto itself - and its not cloying. Still it is surprising to find a beer in this strength that forces itself to be a sipper. In that sense, hard for quaffing, and I would prefer a porter than you can quaff. Opaque black, modest dark head.

Opaque black pour, thin toffee head. Nose is coco & black malt. Bittersweet. middle caresses the tongue with bits of chocolate, coffee, and burnt sugar. Finish is nicely bitter and lasting. A powerful beer that is not overpowering.

Bottle @ Whole Foods. Smelled really rich and full-bodied, with a mocha coffee aroma. Too much coffee flavor for me. Itís highly rated but most people enjoy the smell & taste of coffee...though i am not one of them.

Mine was 1 year old, so not much nose, slightly chocolate scented. The color is rich dark black, with caramel head. Head recedes within minutes but leaves a small ring around the edge of your glass. The taste is incredile rich chocolate and coffee, roasty goodness. The palate enjoys the beer as it is smooth and silky like melted butter, very enjoyable and drinkable. Me likes.

On tap poured into a shaker. It has aromas of coffee, chocolate, and a light toast quality. The beer is a dark, opaque, black-brown color with a dark tan, fluffy, soapy head which retains really really well. It leaves lots of sheet and speckled lace. The taste is a medium sweet and a medium / medium-light bitter. It has a light, foamy carbonation with a light texture, and a medium malty body. Itís smooth and buttery with flavors of chocolate syrup, spice, and grass. It finishes with a sticky syrupy chocolate that lingers in the aftertaste too.

Black with yellow head. Aroma is round. Vanilla, roasted, leather and nuts. Creamy palate. Aftertaste is slick, roasted, leather, dark fruit and lingering darl chocolate. Overall: excellent. Very balanced.

Bottle. Nice roasty nose. Black, opaque color, with dark tan head that slowly dissipates, and leaves a little lacing. Taste is roast, malt, and a very nicely balanced bitterness. Full bodied. Absolutely delicious beer!

12oz bottle pours a thick black color without much head. Smooth and chocolatey at the start with some hoppiness coming through at the end.

Keg at the cock tavern. Opaque black caramel brown coloured pour with a lasting light tan head. Aroma is nutty, praline, caramel, chalky water profile. Palate is medium sweet. Lingering wood and twigs. Some caramel. Palate is full body and highish carbonation. Ummmm.
