Bottle. Clear dark brown pour, good carbonation/lasting lacing and a nice rich warm caramel, booze and slightly sweet aroma. Flavor is nice warm boozy raisins, pepper and sweet sugar on the aftertaste. Very nice.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2012 My first barley wine! Pours a dark brownish red. Very sweet aroma and taste but ends with a fairly strong alcohol burn. Bought a six pack but only put two in the fridge. Think I?ll make the other four the initial brews of my cellaring effort! :)

Bottle. Pours a ruddy brown with orange highlights under light. Smells of alcohol, caramel malt, and dried fruit. It also smells kind of old and earthy. Unbelievably smooth for a 10.2% ABV beer. Flavor is of dried fruits, caramel, woodiness, and hoppy spiciness. Alcohol flavor is present, too, but masked very well. Unfortunately this beer lacks a lot of the complexity I would expect from a beer this big; but it gets major points for being unbelievably drinkable. I’m not sure if I have ever had a beer this big that was this drinkable. Recommended.

Pours a dark and mysterious shade of tawny garnet with hints of tightly wrapped tan bubbles that melt like an April snow. Aromas of dark fruit salad dredged in caramel and dark sugar then soaked in vodka. Hits of floral and earthy hops vainly try to cut through the malty sweetness. Flavors explode with sweet sugary dark fruits, caramel, cherries, plums, and a hint of alcohol and earthy hop flavor. Medium to dry finish in an otherwise full body. Light level of carbonation with a sweet almost sticky mouthfeel. This is a really nice barleywine, I wish I had picked up more than one because I think a bit of age would have only made this better.

Bought a single for $2… I’ve been on a barleywine kick lately. A – Slightly opaque deep copper-colored body with a ¼” yellow- white head which remained until the last drop. There’s a good amount of lacing sticking to the edge of the glass. S – Sweet malt, caramelized sugar, raisons, and maybe green grapes. T – A bit boozy… Big caramel flavor, the alcohol brings some spicy notes. It finishes nicely with big sweet malt and plump fruit. M – Velvety smooth body with an alcohol burn. Slightly syrupy. O – I’d like to revisit this brew with a bit of age on it. It’s good, but I beat it is much better after a year or two. A nice brew for cold winter’s day. Serving type: bottle

Bottle; syrupy brown color; heavy, persisent lace; heavy, but pleasant mouthfeel; this barleywine has great, mature taste, avoiding the sweetness of lesser barleywines. Look forward to the bottles I put away for next year.

12 oz bottle: Thanks Casey! Pours a chestnut brown with a tan head. Lots of CO2 and yeast sediment. Bready malt dominates the aroma. Rich malty flavor, sweeet on the front and bitter finish. Bubbly. Very good Old Ale.

Bottle to snifter. pours hazy (cloudy) dark red (mahogany) with a soapy off white head that settles to a soapy foamy collar. Aroma is sweet caramel malt and nutty with some vanilla. Taste is bitter hops caramel and burnt sugar with hints of nuts dark fruit and some vanilla. Palate is full and creamy with a chalky dry finish and some warming alcohol. Solid Barley Wine with a nice drying finish that bring you back for more.
