One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

Pours almost black, nice brown head fades quickly, excellent lacing. Aroma is heavily roasted barley, burnt coffee and cocoa. Taste follows. This is a nice bid thick chewy beer, one of the really good ones.

Bottle from K&L in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is vanilla, buttery dark butters. Taste is smooth and hard to explain. Not super stylized...no overwhelming coffee or dark chocolate. Just smooth, delicious. This is a stout among stouts. That perfectly weird pop song you love on the radio but canít explain why. A class of itís own.

Bottle Shop at Hunger and Thirst Lancaster Pa. Lives up to its rep. Perfect appearance, smells great. Extremely smooth for such a high abv. Good brew to end the night with.

Go Lehigh. Lafayette Sucks. 2014 Bottle (13 months old) to goblet. Aroma is a lot of roasted barley. Hints of coffee also. Appearance: Dark black color, very thick, with thick light tan head. Taste: bitter dark chocolate, roasted barley, maybe a touch burnt. Excellent beer though. Feel is thick and meaty. Not quite as tasty as some other stouts, but all the peripherals are on the mark. Excited to age a few of these further.

Pitch black pour with a lasting beige head and good lacing. Nose: espresso, licorice, dark chocolate cake. Sweet molasses. Cigar box nose. Taste: full sweet molasses and roasted malts. Straight forward, old school impy. Rich texture. Roasty, malty molasses and very mouthcoting. Coffee, licorice and medium bitterness in the finish.

Pours a very dark brown with a coffee froth head. Aroma isn't very strong, mostly toffee. Taste has alcohol bite with a strong roastiness. Mouthfeel is thick, but not very creamy. Alcohol and hops bite on the front end. Alcohol follows down the throat and hops linger on the palate. Apart from the high ABV, this one is definitely a one and done for the night. Great beer, though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark charcoal colored beer with a late forming billowing root beer float head. Nose of cocoa powder, dark coffee, and aged balsamic vinegar. Flavor is rich with burnt pumpernickel, espresso, and prunes overlaying a smoky charred bitterness on the finish. A bit of acid hits at the end too. Extremely flavorful, but one at a time is more than enough.

12 oz bottle - pours motor oil black with and a thin tan head. Complex aroma of espresso, dark chocolate, anise, earth and tar. A taste is even more layered with flavors of chicory, burnt toast, chocolate, licorice, peat and a bitter coffee finish.

Terrific RIS. Pours black with a tan head. Smells of big roasted malts. Taste is the same with notes of chocolate and nuts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
