COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

Pours all black with a dark khaki, almost brown head that slowly expands into full as the beer settles. Pretty cool. Aroma is potent, and I must say unique. Raisin and alcohol stand out the most, but there is plenty of chocolate, coffee, and licorice in here as well. Moving on to the taste, it is dominated by the darker impressions. This being chocolate and coffee, while the liquor notes are still strong. This one is is full bodied with a thick, oily texture. The aftertaste is heavy and long lasting with chocolate and raisin. The alcohol content hits you quite quickly. It doesnít hide. For what Iím looking for in this style, this might be close to perfection. I am stingy and I throw 4.5 ratings like theyíre manhole covers. But this is worth it. This might be the best stout Iíve ever had.

Love this beer. Next to the batch 8000 & 9000 editions. My favorite. Smooth, strong, bite and a clean finish

Pours black tan head and big carbonation. Aroma of rich french roast coffee. Wonderful. Taste takes it to the next level, dried fruit of raisin and prune with some black licorice. Fantastic.

One heck of a brew, slick and oily, black with fast disappearing beige head. Robust but mild aroma leads into sharp, crisp and deep smoky taste. Mouth feel is slick and slippery, lingering coffee bitterness/ Well worth its high ratings.

2008 vintage at Akkurat. Pours matte black with a low semi-compact mocha head with some froth on top. Swirling it leaves almost no lacings on the i side of the glass. Aromas of chocolate, muscovado sugar, honey, slight leather and tobacco, roasted nuts, vanilla. Taste is chocolate, honey, muscovado sugar, roasted nuts, dark red berries, slight burnt meat tones as well as some vanilla hints. Mouthfeel is very smooth yet with oly coatings and a long-lasting impression. Aftertaste is heavily roasted chocolate with roasted nuts and some honey as well. Superbly well balanced!

Well not much to say most people have had this and it is great. This was bottled 10/22/12. Today is 7/30/14. It is like a thick dark chocolate milkshake in aroma, appearance, taste, and palate. A little bit of smoke in taste. Excellent! Cheers.

Bottle pour, big tan head over opaque black body. Aroma is raisin, bread, bourbon, roasty malt. Taste is raisin, molasses, spice, coffee, bourbon - boozy, roasty bitter malt. Mainly sweet, slightly bitter finish. Palate is rich and thick, carbonation subdued. Pretty big contrast between sweet start and bitter finish.

355ml bottle thanks to BenH. Appearance - opaque black and viscous with fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate with booze and spiced fruit cake. Taste - raisins sweet spices and chocolate all engulfed in a boozy case. Palate - full bodied with a big sweet viscous texture and a fairly balanced finish despite the big sweetness at the front. Overall - yeah great stuff. A multi dimensional imperial stout.

0.355l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. A little treat on this Easter day. It has a deep deep dark brown body with a small islandy and side sticking brown top. It has quite a deep and somewhat complex aroma. Somewhat on the sweet side with lots of sweet licorice, lots of confectionery chocolate. So much that Iím having a hard time member in the last time I had this much confectionery chocolate in a beer. Soft vanilla, a little gift of green banana and oak. Not sure if this had been barreled on anything, but it definitely smells of oak. A little bit of charcoal and lots of licorice! Itís really comfortably carbonated with a good solid oily mouthfeel. Chocolate, roasted, a fantastic bitterness. Just a lovely flavored beer. The finish is packed with dark chocolate. Almost like Iíve finished a plate of dark chocolate by myself. 31.03.2013
