4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: DEC 10, 2012 Final beer of a very thankful and loaded night - this has lots to live up to, by golly. Aroma - mmm. Best yeast I have ever smelled in an impy. Nice dark chocolate with coffee roast. Great appearance of darkness with incredible head and retention; very good lacing also. Flavor - oh geez. This is just so. Best beer night of my life. I get Stone Double Bastard, and then this? Has God blessed me this much? Blends all the best coffee characteristics of their Java with all the richness and licorice and complexity of their Kalamazoo. w00ters. NEARLY at the Founders Breakfast Stout, methinks, if not quite at the *@&$ level of Goose Island Bourbon. Blind taste testing someday plz? RE-RATE: At the level of Founders. Would be hard-pressed to decide between the two. ANOTHER RE-RATE: It was not quite at the level of Founders. Little heavy on the palate. Still a phenomenal beer.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Smells of alcohol and faint hints of chocolate and coffee. Low carbonation with a sticky syrupy mouthfeel. Lightly foamy. Taste is dominated by the alcohol, but of course also has the typical stout tastes present as well such as raisins, dark chocolate, and roasted malts. Aftertaste is long length and the same. You get immediate warmth from the alcohol and taste of alcohol that subsides over the course of about 20 seconds. Too boozy for me. Gets significantly better with age though.

Two years old. Nose is dark fruit and sweet syrup. Flavours are espresso, sweet syrup, dark fruit, bitter chocolate, maybe some leather. Bursting with Flavours very drinkable. Taste big sweet med/big bitter. Full oily body with medium carbonation and lasting bitterness. Awesome beer, no doubt about it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Packaging date of 08/22/14.
This was poured into a mini snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a less than a finger’s worth of foamy tan head that dissipated within less than about 30 seconds.
The smell had a big roasty to semi-smooth bitter coffee bean leading into a delicate cocoa and light vanilla to round it all out.
The taste was pretty smoothed due to the date, I’m guessing, still a nice roasty smooth coffee and cocoa delicately weaves together to lead to a decent sly roasty aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation definitely smoothed a bit with a nice drying edge leading into a rounded out stickiness over my tongue.
Overall, I can only imagine what this is like when its fresh. It aged beautifully and I hope to have again some day hopefully fresh.
