Dark brown with tan head. Smoky chocolate aroma. Very flavorful brew. Roasted malt flavors with smoke. Chocolate finish. Very smooth. Purchased growler at Asheville grocery store. I think this is a great beer and can’t wait to try their others.

Draft at the tasting room. Deep brown, lighter around the edges, very little tan head. Aroma is subtle roasty, chocolate. Bitter chocolate flavor.

On tap at the brewery in Asheville, NC. Roasted notes come through but not much flavor. Could knock back one of these again, though -- like a session stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Originally reviewed: 1/1/12. Went out for a pint with my wife the other night and grabbed one of these to start it off. Came out a thick dark black with a thin tawny head on top. Rich nose with big hits of coffee and chocolate. Lots of roasted goodness. The mouth is weighted perfectly as there is a nice chew to this one. This beer is teeming with a bounty of roasted coffee. There is a "green" element to this beer though. Leafy greens noticed in the flavor, with a fresh hop presence. Nice bitter snap at the end. This was a great beer, and one I would gladly have again.

Unfortunately, I read the description of the beer first, and it tainted my rating. Anyway, poured dark brown with a slight red hue. Smells mostly of coffee and tastes the same. My only contribution is that it leaves a great roasted malt taste in your mouth.

On Tap. Pours dark brown with an off-white, long lasting head and a good amount of lacing. Aroma is of cacao, brown sugar, toast, nutts and hints of dark fruit. Medium, smooth body. Taste is similar to aroma. Finish is semi-sweet, long lasting. Light, easy drinking porter.

You can taste the organicness of this beer, not to mention the finish is very distinctive to this porter. Like this for Green Man Brewery sake.

On tap. Pours a clear dark brown with a thick light tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, odd sweet aroma. Flavor of weak sweet roasted malt. This just wasn’t good. I liked the other Greenman beers I’ve had, I’m not sure what went wrong with this one. It is very bland and off tasting. 5/4/5/3/9 (2.6/5)

Greenman porter on tap jack of the wood 7/15/11. Typical color with a clingy drippy tan head. A is lactose, roast, molasses, a little choco malted milky and sweaty...pretty typical. F is the same. Spicy hop finish. Good amount of choco milk and light molasses. Mild bitterness on finish. Med-fuller bodied and quite creamy. nothing wrong with a safe well made porter!7/3.5/7/4/16+
