4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 GoBlue (103) - Falls Church, USA - NOV 14, 2009
I have intentionally not rated this beer before. This will be my 100th rating and I figured I would use the opportunity to comment on what I feel is a grave injustice. So often these days you hear people disparage SNPA as being boring or not as big as it used to be. I think the problem lies not in this great beer, but in the "Imperialization" of craft brewing. Everything has to be bigger, hoppier, smoked or oaked or many turn their nose up at it. The mentality seems to be if it doesn’t go to eleven it isn’t worth drinking. While this bigger is better philosophy has produced some truly great beers it has also caused some great beers, like this one, to get marginalized. As I am typing this I look below at the top ratings for American Pale Ales and see a list of beers that are really examples of IPAs. How can SNPA not be among the top APAs? It invented the style for crying out loud!
OK, rant over, SNPA really is a great beer from the mouthwatering citrus aroma, to the decidedly hoppy, but beautifully balanced flavor, it is a true classic. Could it have more of everything? Of course it could, but then it wouldn’t be an APA

Never really fully enjoyed this one. Its a little too floral for my tastes. Never liked drinking a beer that tastes like flowers and hay...

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Chrisxx25 (57) - - MAY 26, 2012
Aroma is citrus, pine and sweet malts. Taste is lemon and orange citrus, slightly floral, fruity, maybe apricot, earthy, spices and sweet malt. A pretty good beer, especially as easy as it is to find.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Niksko (14) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 22, 2012
355mL bottle. Pours a light orange-amber turning yellow towards the edges. Two fingers of off white head that fades in a few minutes to a few millimetres. Great lacing. Citrussy notes on the nose with definite lemon and orange aromas. Also slightly sweet with a hint of yeastiness. Taste is loads of citrus with a bit of a lemon peel component. Nice creaminess and butteryness both on the mouth feel and the palate. Lovely light floral element on the mid palate. A slightly musky damp note on the finish (but in a good way). However the finish is dominated by bitter hops and a slight taste of iron, which is really fascinating. Carbonation is spot on, and overall I really enjoyed this beer. God I wish Sierra Nevada beers were cheaper and more widely available in Australia.

Can. Now that this is in a can, I saw that I have never rated this before, but have had no less than a couple hundred times. Clear pale orange with a medium sized fluffy head. Good retention and lace. Floral and grassy hop aroma. Hoppy, bitter flavor with malt behind. Classic for me and will always be one of the best.
