4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
2009 on Draft. Aroma: Caramel, “toasted, ” fresh-cut wood and vanilla.
Flavor: big toasted flavors with French vanilla and bourbon
Comments: My description doesn’t do this justice as it is super complex. This is what wood aging should be like. It blows away competition.

2013 batch. Very different from the regular version. There is no doubting this spent time in wood. Brown pour with decent head and a qtr inch of residual head that stays forever. Nose of wood, sweet malt, and some vanilla. Taste follows the nose with a little bit of residual hop bitterness but not much hop flavor. Medium body. Good stuff.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap @ HotD. Pours cloudy light orange amber with thin creamy lacy head. Aroma is big oaky bourbon with effervescent sweet fruit as well. Taste is similar to normal Fred, just cranked up a couple notches. Crisp light malt, restrained candi sugar, Belgian yeast notes, big oaky finish. I know this isn’t bourbon Fred, but those flavors come out here. Amazing beer, well worth seeking out and paying the premium for.

1700 rate. 12oz bottle from a trade. Pours a dark copper color with an off white head, great lacing. Aroma is heavy on the wood, with hints of vanilla, tobacco, and subdued malts. The flavor is slightly harsh with wood and alcohol dominating. The sweet malts come through at the end with a slight hoppy bitterness.
