4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2011 cork date. Split two ways. Consumed on 1-11-13, reviewed from notes.
A: Clear copper with a foaming white head. Serene inside of the glass.
N: Delicious. Musty hops, lemon zest, and attic spaces. Oak holds down the fort with some black peppercorns and graininess. Hints of grapefruit and pineapple.
T: Lemons, straw filled barn stalls, pineapple, horse blanket, oats, and wood. There’s a very balanced sourness here and some excellent funk. Tart without being grotesquely sour.
M: Perfect. Like drinking a pilsner it goes down so smoothly.
O: Accomplished beer and one of my favorites in the Cantillon pantheon. The hops and the lambic work for me.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
(2014 Cuvee St.-Gilloise bottle @ barVolo for Zwanze Day 2014, Sept 20 2014) Hazy dark gold with a big lingering white head. Aroma really driven by noble (Halltertau) hops, green and kind of spicy with underlying wheat malt and just a bit of wood and feety funk. On the palate, dry and lightly acidic, lemon zest at first, noble hops kick in later with spicy character, drying, bit woody. Lemon returns towards finish. Hop bitterness, wood, light funk linger. Medium bodied with very high carb. The relatively hop-forward spiciness of this beer is a nice contrast to other Cantillons, but it’s not so strong as to drown out the essential characteristics of the 2yo lambic underneath. Nice, palate cleansing sort of combination.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
750ml bottle served in a Thumbler glass.
Cuvée Saint-Galloise purchased @ Mi-orge Mi-houblon - Arlon - Belgium.
Bottled @ the 17th of February, 2014.
A: Beautiful art, first of all. Cantillon trademark. Corked and capped bottle. Pours a hazy light orange color forming a thin but very fizzy and big bubbled white head that dissipates quickly leaving no lacings at all
S: Very malty and fruity. Very complex. Let me try to describe it: Notes of sweet malts, vinegar, grapefruit, leather, orange zest, honey, peaches, wet grass and flowery hops. A bit earthy in the end
T: Also very complex. Slightly sweet upfront becoming quickly, tart and funky. Moderate sourness, nevertheless. Notes of pale malts, vinegar, grapefruit, leather, orange zest, honey, peaches followed by an absolutely great hops bitterness and finished by some metallic and earthy notes. Lambic yeasts
M: Smooth, bit creamy and a bit molasses body. Fizzy "alive" carbonation. Malty/funky aftertaste
O: Perfect drinkability. Quite hoppy and bitter if compared to a classic Lambic Gueuze. Very unusual and interesting. IMHO, Cantillon is the best brewery of all times...

"has always been a little too steep to buy a bottle, so when i saw it on tap - had to jump on board. pretty straightforward baryard funk and lemon, with a hint of sweet and dry as well. not a ton going on, but it did tart very well. acidic flavor and feel."

750 from Robertdale. Thanks man. Cloudy yellow. Had this right after Iris and the two were very similar. Bitter hops at the end. Some sour. Some floral. Tasty and refreshing.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml purchased at Armsby Abbey before Zwanze 2014. 2012 vintage labeled as Cuvée Saint Gilloies aroma is funky lambic yeast, oak, white grapes and nice floral hints.
Flavor starts honey, tart lemons and citrus pith. The backend of the sip has pepper and lightly tart fruit. The sourness is subtle and doesn’t hurt the taste buds. More tart rather then sour which is pleasing to me. Also shows a weak hint of pine. Jeez for the style this is the best I have sampled to date.

On tap at Erzbierschof for Zwanze Day 2014. Gold-orange color with large head. the barnyard aromas are more subtle than with the normal Gueuze. Apples, grapes, tartness, something special in there which I can?t quite describe. Very fruity. Medium body. A good one!
