4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 superspak (1484) - Michigan, USA - APR 13, 201212 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled 2/17/2012. Re-rate from last year. Pours thick pitch black color with a small 1 finger fairly dense tan head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some slight spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, molasses, toffee, espresso, roasted malt, bourbon, and oak. Fantastic aromas here with great balance and good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, caramel, molasses, vanilla, toffee, espresso, bourbon, roasted malt, oak, biscuit, and slight herbal hops. Almost no bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, molasses, oak, and roasted malt on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic flavor balance, without the bourbon being too overpowering; and no cloying sweetness at all. Light-medium carbonation and full bodied; with an insanely creamy, slick, lush, and super smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol is extremely well hidden at 11.2% with only a slight warming after the finish noticed. Extremely easy to drink, but is still a sipper. Overall this is definitely a world class barrel aged imperial stout. Big balanced and robust flavors; with an incredibly smooth and lush mouthfeel. This is definitely at it’s best when fresh.

Nice surprise at the Blind Tiger event didn’t expect this to be there. Pours jet black with nice head. Rich nose of dark chocolate and some booze. Tastes of chocolate, earthy. leather, rootbeer, resin and plenty of bourbon. Not to rich or sweet. pretty decent but didn’t blow me away.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 gEUS (587) - Linden, BELGIUM - MAY 22, 2013
Small bottle @ home, poured in a sniffer. Pours deep to black brown with a lingering small beige head. Aroma is superbly balanced coffee & chocolate, with a tad too much bourbon heat, result is a deep mocca character. Medium body with sweet & roasty notes, immediately followed by alcohol glow, finished with a tad of bitterness. Taste is silky dark chocolate with some raw green paprica in the back. Unfortunately, a bit too much borubon in the taste as well. Yet, one of the most un-American RISes I have ever tasted... but why filter it... WHYYYYYYYY?
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 TimsRatings (83) - - MAY 22, 2013
On tap at Raleigh Times.
Poured a deep, rich brown with small head. Nice and strong bourbon aroma that pretty much disappears from taste. Strong coffee and chocolate overtones, with aftertaste favoring first the chocolate, then the coffee.
First time having KBS. I can appreciate folks chasing after it (and taking a half day off to try it was worth it).

4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 dctriman (37) - USA - MAY 19, 2013
Great smell, body. Flavor is too much bourbon for my taste. Probably needs a couple years to achieve perfection, IMO. Prefer BB4d and Black Note due to smoother flavors.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 CardsFan25 (28) - - MAY 18, 2013
Chocolate and whiskey aroma and heavy taste of each. Did i mention that it has a little bit of a whiskey taste (cold). That said KBS is a true thick stout. Little to no head on the draft pour. The coffee is very subtle compared to normal Breakfast Stout. The overall taste mellows a little bit as it warms. Much better warm...the layers are chocolate, coffee, bourbon.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 reberiii (105) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 18, 2013
Boozy whiskey nose, super chocalatey...taste of bourbon on the tongue. Powerful yet smooth. Slight coffee. More mealy than Bell’s Black making it more robust but not as smooth. Almost licorice with the booze.

Such smooth character that really comes through on the finish. The slightest hint of bourbon really adds to the complexity

Pours a deep, dark black with a thin brown head. Smells of molasses, malts, chocolate, and bourbon. Palate is incredible. Drink the beer slowly as the tastes change as it warms. Everything from coffee, malts, bourbon, to dark chocolate. Absolutely fantastic taste and palate!
