4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
(12oz bottle aged 1 year)
Pours blacker than the darkest motor oil, with a thin brown head. Aroma smells like freshly ground coffee beans, bourbon and vanilla. Flavor has notes of coffee, chocolate, malts, bourbon, chalk and burnt wood. This beer is one of the most unique imperials that I have had. By that I mean: aroma, flavors, extremely smooth/creamy palate.
Couldnt even detect the 10% alc.

Tap at Farmhouse and 12 ozers at home. Everything you’d want on a late winter’s night by the fire. Strong nose of bourbon, earth, peat, caramels. Once again, proof that god loves us.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured at home from a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark black with a thin tan head. Smell is of coffee and cocoa with a little sweet vanilla. Taste is cocoa, with coffee and vanilla. There’s that little burn in the back of your throat from the bourbon at the end. Medium body. Overall, an awesome beer with a lot going on...Definitely recommend!

Thought for sure I’d already had this. Tap at Proof. Black pour. Huge roasty chocolate aroma. Creamy vanilla, chocolate, light bourbon, wood. Bittersweet. Awesome balance. 8.6

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, for my 1000th rating. Pours motor-oil brown/black with a high, mixed-grain, tan head. Nose is good bourbon, coffee, vanilla, and a touch of soy -- really amazing; the bourbon comes right through. On the tongue, heavy and dark; not as sweet as I expected, with the best encapsulation of bourbon I’ve ever tasted in a beer along with coffee, vanilla, and a touch of savory. The palate is oily smooth with a long, satisfying, heated richness. Worth the hype.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours black with a tan head into a snifter.
Aroma is of bourbon, chocolate, and coffee. Unlike most BA stouts, the bourbon isn’t in the forefront, but mixed in and balanced nicely with the other ingredients.
Taste follows the aroma, a nice balance of all three of the main characteristics. Bourbon and vanilla, chocolate, with some coffee. Strong bourbon aftertaste along with the coffee. Absolutely fantastic. A little boozy at the end, but age should take this out.
Thick and oily on the palate, exactly how I like my stouts.
An exceptional twist on the BA stout style, and unlike most of the others, this one doesn’t let the bourbon overshadow the chocolate and coffee. It’s perfectly balanced, perfectly drinkable. Age could mellow out the boozy bite at the end, but this is a damn near perfect beer.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Deserves all the hype! This beer is amazing. One of, if not, the best tasting beer I've ever tried. Almost complete perfection, the only thing I could even consider dinging it for is it is a little thinner than I'd like (and by just a hair), but that's not to say that this beer could be much better. World class for sure!

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours pitch black with a tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is strong vanilla bourbon and a little booze. Mouthfeel is viscous but very smooth for such a high alcohol beer. The immediate taste is of chocolate and coffee with just the tiniest bit of alcohol on the back end. There is a very long and pleasant vanilla and bourbon aftertaste with a vanilla nose. Very, very good, and glad we were able to get it in NJ this year.

I thoroughly enjoy this beer. This rating is based on the fresh '14 batch. Slightly sharp on the booziness. Could use a year or so in the cellar.
