COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Pours black with a thin brown head. The aroma is boozy, bourbon, oak, coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. The taste is much like the nose, sweet, malty, boozy, and bitter on the finish. Overall, one of the of the best beers out there regardless of style. It’s damn hard to get, so buy your max if you see it.

355ml bottle at home. I thought I’d have to go to America to try this top 50 beer, and then it pops up all across London cheaper than half the imperial stouts on the shelves. Bottled Feb 2015 at 11.2%. Black, decent foamy brown head endures, leaves some sparse light lacing. Aroma is coffee, sandalwood, biscuity coconut. Great aroma. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is woody and dry with chocolate and toasted coconut, just a touch of the 11.2% showing up, salty finish. Very good imperial stout.

Bottle. Dark brown colour with brown head. Aroma is heavily bourbon. Then comes coffee, chocolate and malt. Taste continues same, bourbon, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, malt, hops and hint of alcohol. Very smooth and rich mouth feel with soft carbonation. Long, bit alcoholic, bitter and dry but smooth finish, with coffee and vanilla. Heavy on bourbon and bit boozy, good IS but not quite the bomb I was expecting.

Fantastic spelled with a capital WOW. Huge, multilayered aroma with bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and coffee distinctly smellable. Thick and chewy. If KBS is rolled over the tongue enough, count on your tongue getting just a wee numb. Sweet finish but not as sweet as other imperial stouts. High ABV is definitely there to the point of this is a one-and-done-drinking beer if you’re driving the spouse home. Simply superior. Enjoyed on tap at MKE’s Landmark 1850 Inn.

Founders KBS has a thin, tan head, a super-dark brown appearance, some bubble streams, and noticeable tan chunks roiling about. Lacing is minimal. The aroma is of a strong bourbon smell, with background dark-roasted malts. Taste is of the same, with vanilla, chocolate powder, dark coffee, bitterness (not so high), and sweetness. Mouthfeel is mostly heavy, with a velvety aspect coming into play, and Founders KBS finishes somewhat powdery and fairly drinkable for such a strong beer. RJT
