COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Pours a deep black with brown head that lasts forever and leaves great lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate (dry, with cocoa), sweet red wine, mild coffee, earth, wood, smoke, alcohol - superb blending of all of these elements. Taste starts with bourbon, very sweet - then into a smoked woody chocolate in the middle, drying slightly. Booze and cocoa powder travels to the nose, and finally it finishes oily and sticky (and thin) with some coffee coming out alongside the cocoa. Aroma is very solid, but taste has all the right elements with sharp corners. Hopefully age will smooth those out, but I worry it’s too rough up front and thin in the end. Not as good as I thought. Iv’e had several imperial stouts better than this that are easier to find and the same price or less.

Draft pour. Wow. Pitch black with a gently foaming dark tan head. Huge legs on this one. Aroma is dark chocolate, bourbon, oak. Taste is chocolate, chocolate malt, vanilla, strong coffee, more oak, bourbon. A little raisin, cherry skin. Some earthy notes. Finishes fairly dry, with a little alcohol burn. Mouthfeel is full and lush, carbonation is balanced. Excellent.

So happy to find this beer!!! Bought at a natural food bodega in Fort Greene in Brooklyn (On Fulton St.) It was $7 a bottle. Some of the best $7 I’ve ever spent!!!! Pours a rich frothy black, with a tan head that dissipates fast and leaves some great clingy lacing on my snifter glass. I let this one warm up a long time before taking my first sip. During that time I smelled coffee, dark chocolate, malt, port/sherry, earthy and woody notes, and some smoke and slight vanilla too. First taste is a huge explosion of differing sensations- vanilla sweetness, bitter coffee and chocolate like tastes, some very subtle earthy malt in there too. As it warmed the aroma really got strong- toffee, leather, licorice coming out. The mouthfeel is perfect- the co2 levels are perfectly balanced in this beer. It’s a full bodied beer, creamy texture in the mouth almost velvety. I described it to a friends as drinking a "cloud of beer" The finish is long and delicious. This beer, along with a few other stouts and some Barley wines is one of the ultimate "nightcap" beers, perfect for after a big complex dinner or a night of drinking lots of different good beer.

Pours a dark black color with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet coffee, dark cherries, and lots of vanilla. The taste is initially light coffee followed by oak, vanilla, sweet roasted malts, licorice, and dark chocolate. Overall a really solid stout.

bottle. Pours jet black with a small brown head. Strong notes of chocolate along with some coffee and vanilla. Flavor is mostly chocolate with vanilla with some bourbon notes; rounded out with some coffee in the finish. Full bodied and very smooth on the palate. Excellent.

On tap at the Big Texas Beer Fest. Oh my God, where to start...Poured an opaque dark brown near black with a decent khaki head. Highly complex taste of bourbon, oak, roasted dark malts, burnt malts, vanilla esters, and dark fruit all coexisting in perfect harmony. Medium to high fizzy carbonation, thick oily body. Simply put, this is the by far the best beer I’ve ever had.

Poured a dark brown almost black with great lacing. Aromatics of vanilla caramel, brown sugar, dark chocolate and oak. Entry is medium viscosity with a nice chocolate note with the subtlest hint of coconut and Mexican cinnamon. There are also some cognac like fruit notes with vanilla and caramel in the mid palate as some bitterness from the cocoa nibs and oak accent the finish (the oak tannins add a touch of dryness). ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
