4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
A- Pours a deep brownish black hue with little to no head.
S- Smells a lot like 5th dementia, deep caramel hues, mixed berries, dark fruity undertones. Quite a bit different from the coffee / roasted malt smell I was expecting.
T- Sweet, caramel, fig, raisin, hidden hints of blackberry dominate the first wave of taste. I have never had a beer before that had such a distinct first and second phase to the taste as Kuhnhenns AIS. The first few seconds, as previously described tasted more like a barleywine or an old ale. Once that rounded itself out and you thought the flavor was over a deep wave of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt flooded the tongue. It was just like a good long hop bitterness in a DIPA but instead of bitterness, there was a wave of coffee. This second wave didnt present at all until after the original taste had subsided.
M- Low carbonation (it has been in the cellar a couple years) with a high viscosity.
D- This is one of the most interesting beers I have ever tasted and certainly one of the best imperial stouts I have had. It’s definitely not your traditional imperial stout. This makes me wish I flew over for the winter solstice so I could have tasted the BA version.

Bottle at the "couldn’t be arsed to do anything else on a Wednesday tasting @ ABC Beers", courtesy of Kermis. Poured a deep mahogany with a thick frothy dark tan head. The aroma is big roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and light alcohol. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a rich malt, earthy dark chocolate, coffee, liqourice, molasses, alcohol palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from mikem409, thanks Mike! Pours a foreboding black with a brown head leaving some nice streaky lacing. Aroma has strong rich vanilla and molasses with chocolate and caramel. Down through the glass, some roastiness kicks in. Loving that ... Taste is of sweet vanilla, bakers chocolate, caramelly malts, some bourbon, some roast and sweet molasses at the end. Sweeter than the nose. Full bodied and rich. Finishes bourbon-y long and sweetly bitter. This one was very well done - straight forward bourbon-y chocolate malty. Will need to come up with more Kuhnhenn stuff! 16.8

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This poured a jet black with a minimal tan head. Aroma was of.dark.chocolate, licorice, smoke, and soy. Flavor was big and sweet, but not to the point of being over the top. Big abundance.of dark.fruit, smoke and molasses. Pretty amazing this really held up for 8 years.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from polo, thanks man! Thick oily black pour, with a thin layer of mocha head. Aroma of brown sugar, dark fruits, roasted malts and anise. Taste, medium mouthfeel, bitter coffee, roasted malts, sharp finish. Overall, a good imperial stout for sure better than average but doesn’t blow me away.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Beautiful piceous black pour with one finger of charred wood brown head and wonderfully visible viscosity. Nose shows lots of dark fruit skins, anise/licorice, sour cherry, burnt wood, coffee liqueur, and rich melted chocolate. Viscous body with a coating mouthfeel and warming finish. Flavor is definitely a showcase for ze dark malt with a huge with a huge bitter chocolate character and black coffee notes. a fair amount of acidity shows as well. The body becomes a bit tiresome as it is very weighty.

12 oz bottle from 2012 release. Pours dark brown to black in color with a thin beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, nice coffee notes, some caramel, some wood and earthy bitterness to the finish. Good, but I’ve liked some of the others better.
