4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 phaleslu (3178) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - JAN 10, 2012
Little 2008 bottle sent by cgarvieuk to bsuedekum- thanks, Craig and Blake! Pours a deep, dark brown, opaque in the center and somewhat amber on the edges when held up to light, with a small tan head. Aroma of deep, rich roasted malts, chocolate, charred wood, fig, faint plum, molasses. Flavor of the same big, rich roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, caramel, licorice, and earth. Medium-full bodied, with a smooth, roasty, rich mouthfeel and low carbonation. Complex imperial stout. Incredible sipper. Right up my alley.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 pushkinwow (730) - Ontario, CANADA - JAN 7, 2012
250ml bottle from Countbeer. Black with a ruby hue, nice dark mocha head that dissipates. Lots of plum and port, burnt malt, alcohol, smoke, bit of sourness, hint of chocolate. Quite alcoholic, mildy sweet, full bodied, lots of plum and prunes, quite dry, some red wine notes and ash as well. Good but not what I was thinking.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Nightfall (1231) - Hamburg, GERMANY - JAN 4, 2012
Bottle @ Danish Summer Gathering, Ulfborg 2011. Many thanks to Jan. 2006 bottle (I think). Black with a small brown head. Wonderful aroma of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Similar flavour , wonderfully balanced. If I hadn’t tried the Kaggen version, this could haev been my favourite beer. But the extra oaky elements of the Kaggen make it a bit superior. A wonderful beer nevertheless.

300 rating. 2008 version. Pitch black small head. Chocolate aroma with coffee, honey. Taste full chocolate with coffee, honey, bitter taste comes through but balanced. Sticky chocolate aftertaste. Warm alcohol finish. Pine, wood taste comes through as well. Complex and balanced taste.
