Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor’s note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery usually says it’s brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was supposedly a glitch. In Europe it’s sold as an IIPA. But to save the admin crew some time dealing with user feedback, it’s listed as a Barley Wine.

Pours a deep, dark amber with a thick and frothy beige head. Very appealing and complex aroma, with raisin, licorice, plum, apple, caramel, pine, and some chocolate undertones. The fruity aspects stand out most here. The taste, while really not what I was expecting, is very good as well. It is quite roasted. Big on caramel, coffee, chocolate, and pine. I still get the darker fruits underneath these dominant flavors. Contains an impressive hoppy kick that is very much like an IPA. Aftertaste is caramel, coffee, and lots of pine. More of a medium body here with a texture that is sticky. Alcohol content becomes apparent quickly and settles in very nicely. This beer really is something else. It feels like a blend of different styles that are all made up extremely well. Each sip gives a different impression to me. And the transition from the nose to the taste is wonderful. If you want to impress your friends, make them try this one.

Dark ruby Brown with a generous beige head that fades quickly. Dark Brown cassonade aromas with some tobacco. Médium carbonation, burnt toast with some caramel. Long warning finish. Not bad...

Bottle from cellarbrations super store hami hill. Pours a dark hazy brown with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, resin, oak, citrus and plum. Body is medium with low to moderate carbonation. Taste is quite citrusy and zesty and slightly oaky. It has some plum in there as well with hints of toffee and caramel and begins quite sweet on the palate then becomes quite bitter on the finish. Very good

It poured a very dark brown color with a white head. The aroma was of wine, grapes and some barley. The taste was of roasted malts, some dates and figs. Very nice.

Bottle. Pours Brown withcoarse, quickly settling off-white head. Aroma is caramelized sugar, toffee, lightly nutty, plum and raisin, moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Stale hop background, mildly resinous. Flavor caramel, toffee, lightly nutty, toasted, fading to a lightly bitter, piney, resinous finish and a big caramel, toasty, moderately bitter aftertaste. Soft carbonation, medium to full body, and smooth texture. Would have tried this earlier had I realized it was intended as a IIPA.

500 ml bottle from Birra+ (Bottled on 19-03-2014). Wonderful dark copper/chestnut brown, pretty clear, with a nice, fluffy and persistent light beige head. Quite complex nose, notes of burnt caramel, dark fruits, toffee/mou candies, sour black cherries, a hint of cinnamon, wood, earthy and spicy hops, light alchool. Definitely on the sweet side, chunky and sirupy coating the lips with every sip. Raisins under spirit, brown sugar, and candied citrus peel in the taste. Slightly boozy finish, but it feels overall harmonious and balanced. Very soft carbonation, almost full body, oily texture. Impressive.

Tasted on 1/25/12 from a capped 500mL bottle purchased at Armanetti’s. Pours an opaque, dark molasses brown with very thick tan head that slowly recedes to spotty lace, leaving a thick blanket of residue along the inside of the glass. The nose is very toasted, burnt brown sugar and caramel with toasted cocoa nibs, just a hint of creamy vanilla, and nice bitterness. The flavor is darkly toasted burnt brown sugar and caramel, and quite bitter, with notes of chicory and coffee. The creamy vanilla peaks through, and there is much more of a wet earth/forest floor yeast note to this than I would have expected based on the nose. The body is full with lighter than average, but still stinging, carbonation, and a very long bitter burnt brown sugar and somewhat earthy finish. 8/4/8/3/16

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a moderate light tan head on there. Nose has some caramel in there, but a lot of stale hops that seem to have gone bad. Taste is a bit bitter, and bready, and seems a bit heavy. Not a huge fan of this, actually.
