4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Dark, dark ruby color. Appears black at first. Nice easy pour produces a frickin’ huge head of dense tan foam, which has hellish retention. Will it ever go away? Wow. Impressive for sure, but almost too much. Lacing is nice and sticky.
Big chocolatey malts. A touch of smoke. Light hint of some hop spiciness. Hints of caramel and dark fruits. Big earthiness quality.
A fairly complex nose.
Big flavor of roasted malt. Underlying hint of smokiness, not nearly as much as I expected. Sweetness of vanilla and caramel. Nice earthy quality here, also. Very slight hops bite. Light chocolate and coffee notes. Hints of dark fruits.
Good solid medium boby. Good level of creaminess.
This is an excellent porter, overall. I would drink many of these, and often, if given the opportunity.
Not as smoky as may have been expected, but a very good offering from Stone, nonetheless.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
on tap@Hopfenreich, Berlin. faint aroma of smoke, stronger aromas of coffee, malt-coffee, a faint touch of toffee. well-balanced, very good drinkability, tastes only faintly of smoke, this being my first Stone I had expected a bit more concerning complexity of flavours, hm...

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - 650ml. Pours a very dark brown body with a good beige foamy head. Nice, well balanced, complex malty/hoppy aroma with chocolate, coffeeish, roasted cereals, and some oaky hints. Its perfectly balanced malty/hoppy taste carries the same roasty, chocolate, and woody notes as the aroma. In addition some subtle anise hints are noticeable. Ends with a long bitter/roasty finish. Very well done.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
1pt 6fl oz bottle served in a chalice. Dark, dark ruby with a thin beige head. Chocolate and coffee aroma with similar flavours, and some vanilla sweetness. Subtle rather than aggressive, the smokiness is quite subdued, the palate rich and smooth, the overall effect a seductive well balanced beer.

Smokey initial flavor with chocolate aftertaste, dry bite sort of pale. Gets better when warm and through most of the bottle

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a very dark brown with velvety, creamy beige head. Soft burnt wood aroma, some coffee, some peat. taste has some of the smoke flavor, some chocolate, lots of the dark roast grains. Still plenty bitter, but with a nice fireside feel.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Beautiful dark park w/ a great tan head that leaves excellent lacing! Very good smoke, chocolate, & slightly fruity aroma. The light mouthfeel is fantastic as it’s medium bodied but the smoke flavor is just a touch too much. Just a tiny bit more balance w/ the chocolate flavor would make this beer damn near perfect! The smoke is an interesting touch on the porter & overall this is a terrific brew!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
650ml bottle. Pours a clear ruby-flashed black, with a smallish beige head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. Black coffee and milk chocolate are the dominant aromas, with a little caramel sweetness and smoke in the mix as well. A brief initial milk chocolate flavour soon fades into herbal hops. Black coffee and dark chocolate in the mid-palate give way to a subtle blend of smokiness and sweetness akin to that of an Islay scotch in the finish. A very nice, subtly smoky porter.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A chestnut colored beer with just an average foam head that leaves a fair amount of lacing down the side. Aromas of rich malts and sutle hints of smokiness.
A nice tasting beer with rich complex malts over sutle background smokiness. Hints of coffee and espresso are present with an underlying hop bitterness.
Smooth full body beer creamy, but a little watery.
A nice well made beer.
