COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium’s lineup - but it didn’t start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff’s first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert.

Medium nut brown, light tan head with decent retention. Aroma is both plummy and stemmy/reedy at the same time. The palate delivers more dark caramel, raisins, dates, and spicy esters than the nose would suggest. Really tasty.

Pours a reddish brown with a large off-white head. Aroma of cloves, malts, and some brown sugar. Flavor of cloves/banana and malts. Pretty decent.

Pours a dark clear amber color. Good long lasting head with great linear lacing as the beer is finished. Sweet malty aroma. Taste of malt and banana almost a yeasty taste to it, a little bit of bitterness on the back palate.

Pours a maple syrup color, white foamy head. Prunes on the nose. More dried fruit and bubble gum on the palate. A bitter resin finish. Very nice ale

hmmm not so sure about this from the get go. appearance. I expect it dark. Like black dark but its not. dark cooper in color. Large two finger head that looks really nice. The head disappeared quickly. smell- Lots of hops. Yep it smells like the hop room at a nice brewery. taste- hops and bitterness. mouthfeel- very active little to much activity for me. overall- I guess I don’t match others on this....It was ok but nothing more then that. honestly I didn’t finish it.... Clear amber-red. off-white head and light lacing. Very malty aroma, like candied fruit. Palate is full-bodied with gingerbread, nutmeg, fruitcake. Despite these flavors, the beer is rounded and not sweet, with a good balanced bitterness on the back palate.

12oz bottle prior to session @GABF-pours amber with a light tan head. Aroma is sweet medium malt-some toffee, medium fruit, some spice, clove/banana. Taste is biting spice, clove/banana, sweet medium malt-some toffee. Medium body.

Pours a nice mahogany color with a thick and creamy tan head. Spicy and sweet aroma with notes of bread, yeast, slightly dried fruit, with slight warm alcohol notes. Taste is smooth and palatable with sweet notes of bready malt and subtle spices. Much better at "Cellar Temp" than straight out of the fridge. Not bad for a domestic abbey-style brew, but not out of this world either
