COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium’s lineup - but it didn’t start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff’s first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert.

Lots of bubblegum and a bit of clove in the aroma and flavor. Bit of dark fruit as well. Complex. Whole lot going on in this one.

Pours a deep red with a nice white head that sticks around. Aromas of yeast, candi sugars, and some and dare I say bubblegum? Tastes pretty well balanced between the belgian yeast, some malty sweetness and a dry, bready finish. Nothing offensive about this beer, very drinkable.

Pours deep orange with okay head and good lacing. Smells apricot, spicy, yeasty, and some other orange/red fruits. Taste is where it lets down some - very mild, some yeast and spice, but only smidgens of the fruits represented in the smell. Bready/malty aftertaste. Good, but not great.

Aroma is a bit like rootbeer. Amber in color with a nice white head. Slight candi sugar taste which fades to a spiciness of the Belgian yeast. Notes: Brewery visit during ’09 GABF

Pours a deep amber, nice frothy head, with nose of Belgian yeast, and cherries. Flavors are pretty dynamite. Rich, creamy malts with bread and fruits. Kind of like jelly toast. Really good!

Bottle. Clear copper, medium tan head. Aroma of spices, caramel, brown sugar, fruit. Mild sweet flavor. Medium somewhat creamy body, fruit and spice finish. One of the better abbey dubbels i’ve had.

Bottle thanks to Ibrew2or3: Poured a light mahogany color with a slight off white head. Aroma is nice dark fruits. The taste is very dark fruits of raisin and plum, however it finished slightly light.

Poured a reddish brown color with minimal head, though that may be the fault of my glass. Aroma was an assault of malt and doughy yeast flavors with some fruitiness. Taste was light bitter with a long astringent finish. Really interesting flavor and looking forward to pairing this with food.

Aroma: Rich malt, spices, a slight hint of banana esters. Appearance: Reddish copper, off white head. Taste: A nice balance of malt and spice, slightly bitter and dry. Palate: Medium body with medium high carbonation. Overall: A nicely balanced dubbel, definitely a goto beer for me.

Delicious Dubbel. Dark amber with a white head and tons of lacing. Brown sugar and banana nose. Effervesscent with a yeasty mid palate and some dates on the finish.
