Reviewed 3/13/2009 (Bottle):
Pours a dark brown black color body, with a tannish, creamy looking head, okay sized and somewhat lasting. Dark roasty malty aroma, some coffee. A little skunkiness. Some fruitiness too. Enticing. Creamy mouthfeel, light fruitiness, like a hefe, some banana. Not as stouty as I was expecting. Very tasty.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jhamp9 (370) - Corinth, Texas, USA - APR 19, 2012
Pours dark brown with a slowly fading cream head. Nice lacing. Aroma is roasted, some coffee and chocolate, and a hint of smoke. Taste is roasted malt, some bread, and some nuttiness. Just a bit watery. Not bad though.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 vyvvy (2920) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - APR 16, 2012
Sampled at Schlafly 2012 Repeal Fest. Pours light clear brown with an off-white head. The aroma has roasty malt, cocoa, smooth schwartz lager maltiness and some nuttiness. Light crisp body that is assertive with sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with bright toaty malt, dry cocoa, aspirin and spicy hops. The finish has some mineral traits as well. Good beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 phaleslu (3544) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 16, 2012
Draft sample at Schlafly Repeal of Prohibition Festival 2012. Pours a deep, dark brown color with amber around the edges and a small tan head. Aroma of toasted malts and nuts, earthy hops, root beer, and cocoa. Flavor of toasted malts and nuts, chocolate, root beer, earth, and brown sugar. Light-medium bodied, with medium-high carbonation and a toasty mouthfeel. Why is this rated so low? Good schwarzbier.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 dresden (267) - Saskatchewan, CANADA - APR 6, 2012
Black with no head whatever. Roast malt aroma, some smoky chocolate. Taste is a bit of stale coffee and roasted malt. Tastes a bit watered down. Not bad for the style, just not my favorite style.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Brandon1989 (27) - Euless, Texas, USA - MAR 26, 2012
the beer pours a dark ruby red almost black with a small head. the aroma is of hops, roasted or burnt nut, and sort of smokey. the taste is of dark chocolate, slight caramel, very roasty! slight amount of hops. Also, while i visited the brewery they had a special keg of this brew with some vanilla added in it and with that added it really sweetened up the beer in a good way. I actually preferred the beer better with the vanilla in it and wish that it was a permanent ingredient.
2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Beerenberger (188) - Fischer, Texas, USA - MAR 11, 2012
Strong roasted coffee taste that disappears quickly. This light-to-medium bodied. This brew's taste is all up front with little or no finish. High carbination.

On tap at the Houston Flying Saucer. Pours a clear brown with a slight amber hue and a creamy brown head that laces nicely. Aroma has notes of toast and roasted malts with backing dark grains. Flavor starts with dark grains and develops a bit of a smokey and toasty note through the finish.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 DerHopKopf (32) - Texas, USA - JAN 20, 2012
Pour is dark, but not quite opaque. Minimal light tan head. Aroma is musty, but sweet with no bitterness. Taste is nothing special, kinda sweet with a lingering weakly bitter finish. Mouthfeel light bodied with decent carbonation. Water + calories. Not an unpleasant beer, just average all around.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DSG (3005) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - DEC 30, 2011
Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Clear brown color. Aroma has a bit of roastiness, slightly grainy, and light vegetal acidic notes. Sweetish roasty flavor with a bit of coffee, slightly "green", light acidity and a drier finish. Medium-bodied. Decent.
