Commercial Description:
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

Pours a clear but dark ruby-amber with a small beige head. Sticky lacing. The aroma is comprised of mega malty caramel and toffee, figs, maybe a hint of cherry, and faint alcohol, not much at all in the way of hops. I assume this was at least a year old. The huge malt aroma gives way to a full, complex, array of malt flavors that are bold, but not overpowering. Chewy caramel, toffee, biscuit, and earthy resin. The finish has a bit of citrus and pine, and is only a touch alcoholic {which is surprising considering the abv}. This aged version reminds me of Devil Dancer, which I also had post hopbomb. Lots of Barleywine-esque malt, and a considerable amount of complexity mixed with a high abv that is misleading to the senses, make this an enjoyable, but dangerous drink. I really would like to try this number fresh.

Pours a deep amber color with a moderate head. Aroma is of citrus and pine notes with hints of caramel. Taste is remarkably bitter to begin, but balanced by a slight caramel or molasses sweetness. Excellent mouthfeel with a medium finish.

Pours cloudy amber with lots of sediment. (was that a whole hop flower I saw floating to the bottom of the glass?) The aroma is heavy on the caramel, toffee, pine and peach. The flavors are the same. Mostly honey, sweet plums, caramel, toffee, pine and peach. The 98 IBU’s are hidden very well under the huge alcohol presence. I think I would have enjoyed this more as a barleywine.

Bottle poured a cloudy orange amber with a lasting creamy amber head and great lacing. Aromas of carmel, pine, earthiness, citrus and light toffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a lightly dry finish. Flavors of carmel, toffee, earthiness, pine, grapefruit and light orange zest with a smooth warming lingering bitter finish.

28th June 2008. Complex IPA. There are some rich barleywine falvours along with subtle banana, peach, tea and aniseed. 98 IBUs but doesn’t seem that bitter. A real taste sensation!

( 12oz bottle) Pours clear orange, nice lace. Great nose of sweet caramel and hops and some pine. Taste is lightly bitter hops, sweet caramel and pineapple. I wish I loved it more, and I wanted to but it was a little too much for me.
