COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

a beautiful pour with a nice light brown/tan head. taste is of smoky/lightly burnt coffee, the aroma though is its best feature. this was a dollar cheaper than regular guiness (i dont know why) a sixer but nothing more special than its brother. good beer.

This is the second Guiness I’ve rated. The first is the Malaysian variety and this one is much better. It’s my sister’s favourite beer, in fact, and though she’s not into craft beer that much she does have standards. It’s nice to see a good quality macro on the Canadian market. So what if it’s brewed by InBev, Belgians know their beer, amirite? I’m in love with the mouthfeel of this beer, and I think it perfectly matches the level of the roast, which is not astringent to me. Smells of coffee and chocolate, but that’s to be expected.

pours thin and opaque. Smells timidly malty. Relatively light mouthfeel as expected of the style. A suggestion of smoky malt with fain hopes. Oaked, roasted flavors. Medium body, soft.

A gas station run...and this was the best bet. The familiar taste and aroma...roasty and bitter. I prefer the creaminess of the draught, but this is fine in a pinch.

Brown black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is flat roasted malt and a hinto coffee. Flavor is dry roasted malt with a hinto cough syrup, coffee, and a bitter malt finish. Medium bodied and fizzy.

Bottle from your Dekalb farmers market. pours thin and opaque. Smells timidly malty. Tastes... pretty much how I remember Guinness tasting, although its been a while. Relatively light mouthfeel as expected of the style. A suggestion of smoky malt, then some halfway respectable hop bitterness intermingled with more residual malt. Overall, seems like a slightly beefier version of the original. I don’t often drink Irish dry stouts, but if I do, this one’s as good as any I guess.

Bottle. Extremely dark pour with a monster of a head - I actually spooned off about 3 inches of head just to get the rest of the bottle into the glass without waiting a half-hour. Nose is roasty with a hint of chocolate. Taste is roasty and decidedly dry with a touch of bitter. Palate is moderate at best.

The first stout I fell for as a kid. Now it barely stimulates my senses. This commercial stout saddens me as if my teenage taste buds were lying. As it warms the classic sweet and earthy Stout smell comes alive. Poured in a pint glass from a 1Pt 6Oz bottle. There was a 1.5 inch airy and quickly fading tan head with consistent lacing. The color was almost a completely opaque Dark Brown. Unfortunately as it warms the warm sugar/starchy taste fades and becomes more bitter. The palate fades from frothy and pleasant to watery with a light bitter bite. A seemingly well balanced commercial stout that with the exception of the aroma falls apart as it warms.

It pours a dark chocolate tone. head is thin a beige. It has a roasted coffee smell with a hint of hops. Not my favorite beer flavor. Too pricey for what I get. Definitely not my preference.

Pale copper brown pour with 1-2 fingers of head fighting to stick to the lip of the glass. Nose is estery with a light sweetness and banana gum quality and hints of soft bread. Very nutty quality in the flavor with some isoamyl acetate and flat bready character.

341 ml bottle. Pours a reddish black with a thick, persistent, beige head. Smells like chocolate and hazelnut. Tastes like dark chocolate, coffee, sweet milk and hazelnut. Slight metallic aftertaste with coffee bitterness in the finish. Body is watery, with a creamy texture thanks to the huge head. Very good, comparable to canned draught (but not real draft).
