Het Anker Brewery still brews "The Emperor’s Beer" which is top-fermented and bottle conditioned following traditional methods. Its high gravity (O.G. 1080-85) combines the warmth of wine and the freshness of beer. Gouden Carolus is one of the strongest and most exciting beers in the world. After lengthy maturing and conditioning, it is bottled unfiltered, giving a beer which is rich in vitamins and 100% natural. Gouden Carolus has unlimited storage (it even improves with age) and will charm you with its warm coppery colour and rich bouquet.

UPDATED: NOV 10, 2010 this beer is weaker, cheaper beer than the gouden carolus blue i had previously fallen in love with. I just couldn’t help comparing. I mean this beer is great and all, and for the price, it’s all the better...but i think i’ll stick with the blue.

fles 33cl. Voor mij is en blijft deze klassieker eentje om altijd in de kelder te hebben staan. Mooie donkere kleur, smaak en geur mooi in balans

33cl bottle. Pours dark brown, opaque, with caramel head. Aroma of chocolate and honey. Viscous, but not overly sweet. Really does have the body of a wine. Flavors are dark fruit and chocolate. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark, sweet, rich, very tasty. Pours very dark with big head. Strong alcohol warmth and taste comes after - seems more than its 8.5%. 330 ml bottle at Little Brussels.

Donker. Plat en overheerlijk. Beetje papperig in de mond en behoorlijk zoet. Toppertje

Pours clear, dark brown. Small, offwhite head. Aroma has dried fruit, toffee, hints of alcohol getting more pronounced later on. Flavour is similar, smooth, well balanced with warming alcohol. Lightly spicy and bitter finish.
