3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2010 this beer is weaker, cheaper beer than the gouden carolus blue i had previously fallen in love with. I just couldn’t help comparing. I mean this beer is great and all, and for the price, it’s all the better...but i think i’ll stick with the blue.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle @Prizma, Riga
Pours deep drown reddish with beige, creamy top, medium lasing.
Aroma - typical dubbel alike - dominant chocolate cake yeasty (a bit reminds Westwletteren XII), darker malt sweet plus some dark sugar-berries like. Taste is sweet with minimal bitter, a bit soue at the end. Intensity of flavor is respectable and exists even over time, but it lacks richness, fullness so to me it is average brew. Thick, medium+ body, dry finish and dry, floury aftertaste, also pleasant sweet-sour after-aftertaste.
Quite ok, liked cake notes in aroma.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a murky brown with a a beige head of foam that dissipates pretty quickly. The aroma is pretty boozy and hot, but some subtle dark fruit complexities and nutty notes sneak through with a little digging. The taste is sweet and a little dry. The finish is long and reminds me of walnut hulls. Thicker, near syrupy mouthfeel. Just a little carbonation. I get a pretty good heat on the back of the throat and down into the stomach.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours deep copper with beige head. Flavour is black pepper and a whole lot of dark fruits -- plum/prune/raisin, you know the spiel, seen it a thousand times. Flavour is all those fruits with an alcohol spiciness that’s not too strong but complementary. Friggin excellent; the kind of beer that gets me excited about yeast, much to my drinking associates’ chagrin.

Pours a dark brown when held against the light is clear. Small tan head that slowly fades to a nice layer. Fruity berry smell with a hint of toffee/caramel. Also nice dark malts. The lovely Gouden Carolus taste of cherry and berry and the best sweeties and what I call red wine like. Medium to full body with medium carbonation and dry finish. Love it! One you recognize as a Gouden Carolus immediatly.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20

Dark brown with a dark red glance, brown head. Caramel, dried fruit, wood berries, raisins, pear, banana and a bit of alochol in the nose. Dark chocolate, caramel, some spices in the taste. Sweet, very subtile finish. slightly alcoholic, but very warm, welcoming. This is a great beer, very balanced. Goes very well with desserts.
