3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2010 this beer is weaker, cheaper beer than the gouden carolus blue i had previously fallen in love with. I just couldn’t help comparing. I mean this beer is great and all, and for the price, it’s all the better...but i think i’ll stick with the blue.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

Pours dark, aroma taste is sweety and very strange, smells sweet and chocolaty, not a typical ale

Rally dark red-brown colr with a creamy firm head. Medium carbonation. Caramel, cinnamon and chocolate aroma. When you take your first sip and taste the chocoalte and caramel you expect a very heavy taste. But the taste doesn’t turn heavy, but turn very soon in a very smooth finish. The alcohol is there in the aftertaste. Good beer.

Carolus is a great beer, without any special aroma, except maybe alcohol followed by nice sweet finnish. Color is dark brown with fast disappearing light brown foam. Easy to drink.

But en fut le 1 mars chez Ho.st. Bière bien balancée en saveur et odeurs. Saveur de candy qui laisse la place au subtilité des malts et des houblons.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Drinking date: 28 February 2014) Very dark brown/black colour. Thin layer of beige head. A bit of a strange aroma, I think it smells like my keys haha, a bit like metal. Also a bit of a sweet aroma, also chocolate. But not a powerfull aroma, a bit dull aroma. The taste is also a bit sweet, and like chocolate. Not really bitter. The taste is special, it tastes good, but it’s not powerfull, it’s not a powerfull taste. It has the taste of Westvleteren 12, but then less powerfull. This beer has a complex taste of choclate and other things. It gets more and more delicious the more this beer warms up a bit. The mouthfeel is perfect. It’s a bit thick, and the carbonation is not too much. So overall, this beer is not really powerfull, but however it is well balanced, and has a special taste. So that’s why this beer gets the score of 3.9!

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown ambered colour with a small soft fading tan head. Noses predominantly of malt, caramel, brown sugar and pine/spruce. A little fizz on the palate leaving a slick texture with sweet notes. The finish is lasting and slick. Very sugarcane like.
