COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

In the aroma there is some molasses and a light vinous component along with a grassy/herbal note . Sweet and creamy are the first things noted with caramel, butterscotch and a little bit of prunes. Following this is some very earthy/forest floor bitterness with a touch of pine. Finishes with a port wine flavor and aftertaste and some alcohol warmth. A bit of smokiness is left behind too. A tasty, classic barleywine.

On tap at Csakajósör, Budapest. Clear light amber color with light brown creamy texture, which disappears quickly. Sweet, floral, honey, malty odor and caramel, resin, alcohol aroma with floral aroma hop, because of the dryhopping. It’s not bitter anyway, it has medium sweet taste. Medium body with creamy texture and average carbonation. Sweet, honey, floral finish. It’s a delicious, intensively sweet beer with very special aroma hopping.

0.355l bottle from CrackedKettle webshop. Pours a deep cloudy- almost on the verge of being murky- brownish body with a nice creamy beige head. Really toffee and caramel sweet on the nose with hints of both red berries, plums and malts. It’s a totally classic and sweet barley wine nose on this one. Oh, no surprises in the flavor either; I’ts sweet and sticky with a nice average small-bubbly carbonation level. Sweet caramel dominates everything, but there’s a nice warming alcohol touch from the beginning all the way to the aftertaste, hints of wood, licorice and roasted nut-oil. A good sipper this. 25.01.2012

A great everyday barleywine. Great balance of sweetness and alcohol. Pours a rich ruby color with little to no head. I always look forward to drinking one of these.

pours deep ruby colour with cream coloured lacing that dissipates quickly. Caramel, subtle hops on the nose. At first taste slight alcohol burn which is not apparent from then on. Caramel, some dark fruit (subtle) and moderate hoppiness. overall is a decent offering. Although it isn’t over the top in that it lacks to a certain degree some of the complexity of other BW’s it is quite honestly nice to drink. No complaints

Classique en bouteille de 12oz. Enfin !
