4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 donteatpoop (127) - Youngstown, USA - APR 29, 2009
I was very pleased with this.
Clear light amber color, thick white head and good lacing effect.
Smells like... Holy hops, batman.
Despite the hop heavy taste, the bitterness is not over bearing. Great IPA, and normally I’m not too fond of IPAs.
Decent body, no unpleasant aftertaste; very well balanced beer.
Very drinkable. I can see myself tipping quite a few of these back in a sitting.

Pours a very clear gold with a medium white head...good retention/lacing. Aroma seems a bit tame but has some fruity citrus, tea notes, and just a bit of spice. Flavor has some pine and spicy grapefruit...not as fruity as i expected. Mouthfeel is medium/full and a bit oily with a bitter piney finish.

(bottle) clear honey amber colour with medium tall white head; aroma of sweet fruit, then more pine and citrus, great rich and balanced flavor, excellent IPA - better than many Imperial IPAs
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 pantanap (2838) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 19, 2012
On tap at the source...pours a touch lighter than burning river with a thin to medium frothy soapy white head... Aroma of floral citrus hops with a biscuity pale malt profile ... Flavors of somewhat phenolic and strengthey citrus and caramel malty notes with a fairly substantial butter backend. Medium perhaps slighly more with an adequate level of carbonation. Enjoyed burning river a little more as the alcohol phenolics were a bit too assertive. So many more appealing ipas out there right now. Perhaps if I had this a few years ago...

from notes: decent hop nose, but where the beer surprises you is the taste. Very earthy, not overly hopped. Carries the distinct Great Lakes flavor profile. Decent.

Well balanced, not too bitter. Has a slight caramel to it that makes it a bit above average. Otherwise okay.
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 frpilz (46) - Illinois, USA - MAY 15, 2012
Mild fruity aroma, also hints of fennel seed and bisquits. dark gloden color , thick full white head. Taste is crispy hops at first , not too bitter. Then mellows out to a long malty bready finsish. Mouthfeel is medium to medium light. Crisp and light but plenty of flavor for its lightness. Overlap of smooth caramel , bread, yeast, and malt, especially at the end. Great summer beer for those who want more flavor than a cerveza. Very tasty.

(draught at brewpub) golden amber with white head. Fruity hops aroma. Flavor was fruity hops with bready malt.

Six pack slated to expire in 3 weeks. At first I wasn’t sure I liked this at all, but it grows on me. It’s grassy and lush where most IPAs try to be brashly piney and load on the citrus peel.Does have a bit of tasty lemon. The hops oddly manage to come across a bit vegetal (peas or beans?). It has a lovely golden unfilterd look with fine carbonation and dense white head. I love this brewery, they deliver and don’t try to steal your wallet.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Onenote81 (902) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - APR 24, 2012
Originally reviewed: 12/18/09. Poured into my pint glass. Pours a crystal clear pale gold with a big frothy eggshell-white head on top. This is one of the clearest IPAs I’ve ever seen. Expected it a bit darker. Great retention on this one. Left plenty of lace and sip rings in its wake. Scents of pine needles, lemon rinds, crackers, and a sharp sour note.
The mouth is a little thin and slick. Leaves a light silky coating on the palate. On to the good part. Wow! This is a really well-made E-IPA as far as flavor goes. Big citrusy hops at the forefront, but they mellow beautifully to a sweet honey finish. No harsh aftertaste, even though this is plenty bitter. Slight drying feel on the finish. Flavors of grapefruit and light butterscotch bring up the rear. What a treat this beer is.
