We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Imperial Stout fra Nøgne Ø er en tett og helt svart ale med stor fyldighet. Smaken domineres av kaffe, sjokolade, lær og tørket frukt. Vi synes den passer bra til mørk sjokolade og kraftige desserter.

Wow...what black tar pit did this stuff crawl out from? Seriously pitch dark in pour with a dark brown (almost black) head resting foamily atop...no light dwells within. Sickly sweet smell...like rummy raisins and cream. Soft and slightly fuzzy on the tongue. This is one very interesting stout that i’m actually having a hard time trying to pin down flavours on...it has hints of chocolate, roasted barley, coffee, etc. all the usual suspects. But there is an overall dryness that supercedes all of those flavours and in turn, welds it into something slightly spectacular. Imagine the dryness of white wine and the smokiness of a good barrel-aged whiskey crossed with the creaminess of ice cream (specifically vanilla...not chocolate, surprisingly). What more can i say? Simply amazing and unique...might give Old Rasputin a run for it’s money.

Bottle from Sedona. They claim it's been aged about two years. Pours a thick black with a dark brown head. Lovely aroma of chocolates, dark fruit. Taste is dark and then creamy milk chocolate, light sweetness. Light floral and fruit. Delicious. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Goddamn, this is one seductive Imperial Stout. Midnight black pour with brown suds. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, and subtle dark fruit aromas. Tastes like bittersweet chocolate, blackened barley, and toasted (alcohol) sugar. Balance is fantastic; not too much booze, not too much coffee-like bitterness - yet, a high amount of each. This ale plays most nicely when it’s nice and warm. It’s velvety smooth and rich. However, it won’t make you feel like you’ll need a nap worthy of Rip Van Winkle. Not like some Imperials.

Bottle. A- Roasty, cocoa, subtle coffee, tobacco. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Roasty, cocoa, subtle bitterness. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, roasty finish. O- Plenty of roasted notes and a bit of chocolate and tobacco otherwise a seemingly pure imperial stout with not a ton of interesting flavors or complexities.

Bottle from Beerhawk. Can’t describe the aroma! Smooth and refined, with light coffee notes and pleasant aftertaste. Pretty good.

One of the best russian imperial stouts out there, an excellent example of the genre. Pitch black pour with a bit of head. Smells of roasted malts and boatloads of dark cherries. The taste follows the same notes, simple components yet excellently blended. Smooth mouthfeel and a bitter aftertaste.

Lovely. A gift from MB2. Almost perfectly balanced between sweet and roast malt flavors. Velvety body. Thick oily black pour with a brown head. Yum.

Bottle. Cappuccino head forms when poured;.whiffs of caramel, raisins, coffee. Taste is round as the expected bitterness is nicely balanced by almost fruity and nutty notes. Fantastically pleasant!

Flaske. Farven er sort som natten. Aromaen er kaffe, chokolade og ristet malt, og smagen er ligesådan. Eftersmagen er sødlig bitter. En virkelig lækker imperial stout.
