4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Bygers (8) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 6, 2012 does not count
Bought in Amsterdam july 2010. Poured a medium dark brown color with almost no head.
Aromas of dark fruits and dark brown sugars strong notes of vanilla, banana, muscat, blueberries. Faint notes of caramel, grass, butterscotch, nuts.
Taste: caramel, toffee, subtle dried fruits, and a distinctive yeast note. Palate is amazing on this beer, very soft and silky texture, nice, long finish.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 jkwood04 (1203) - Connecticut, USA - FEB 5, 2012
11.2oz bottle in a Trappist glass. Pours very deep, cloudy brown with a thick, lacy, beige head. Aroma of caramel and cereal malts, spicy yeast, dark fruits with some wine-like characteristics, and some floral hops. Flavor about the same, with lots of malts, sugar, and yeast. Smooth texture. An incredible beer.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 77ships (735) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - FEB 5, 2012
15 cl. sample from 33 cl. bottle @ Bruges Beer Festival 2012: hazy very dark brown with a mocha head, smells like boozy plums, Belgian yeast & liquor cherries/bread malt, taste is boozy, plums, prunes & dates, lots of Belgian yeast, bready yeast, touch of jam, slight liquor cherries/bread malt, brown bread, dough & hint of earthliness, boozzzy, bready malt body but not quite full, messy but interesting, comparable to 12, better in quite a few ways than the 12

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 MotherBrother (143) - Aalborg, DENMARK - JAN 26, 2012
Pour dark, deep almost opaque brown, with a large fluffy tan head.
Aroma is quite complex, with a lot of bready yeast to it. Alot of dark fruits as dades, plums, raisins. Vanilla, caramel, bread, dough, earth. A lot is going on, but this isn’t as balanced A’s the 12.
Taste is quite sweet.
Medium body, with a typical trappist fizzy carb.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 kryon (147) - SWEDEN - JAN 26, 2012
First time tasting the notorious Westvleteren. A dear friend managed to bring Extra 8 and 12 back home.
Pours light murky brown with low frizzy head.
Aromas full of belgian yeast, oranges, hints bananas and general murky tones. Palate starts mild with a creamy fine texture. It is smooth but could be richer. Westvleteren is hyped and my expectations were higher but it is still av very good beer.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 daje (520) - NORWAY - JAN 24, 2012
Bottle shared with esp0r at Amundsen.
The famous Westys availible in our city, of course we had to! One 12 each, and an 8 for sharing, as we expected the little brother to a bit hyped.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a really good beer, though I suspect the love-in is partly due it’s rather limited availibility.
Dark orange, near brown, medium beige head. Good complexity in both aroma and taste. Fruity, caramel nose, belfian style yeast notes, full bodies taste of more of the same, spices.
A good one, though the bigger brother is the one to go for
