Westvleteren has the smallest output of the Trappist breweries, with only a small part of their production going very far into the world.

Trying to avoid the cliché, but this really is like a lighter version of a 12. The palate is thinner, the liquorice and fruit notes lack the intensity. Very very good, but not as good as the 12.

Bottle 0.33 l, Drink Hala, Wrocław, Poland.
Brązowe, mętne piwo o jasnobeżowej, obfitej i trwałej pianie oraz bardzo przyjemnym, owocowym aromacie. W smaku złożone i idealnie zbalansowane, owocowe z nutami suszu i palonym, łagodnie rozgrzewającym finiszem.

Evening where we drink the 3 Westvletsren after each other. 2/3. Bottle 33cl. Cloudy dark brown with a beige head. Now the rye is getting more obvious in the aroma and also in the taste by the way. Lots of malt and some sweetness as well. Medium length.

Dejlig øl. Kun i sammenligning med Westvleteren 12’s dejlige aroma, at den ikke får topkarakter.

330ml bottle in Café De Spuyt, Amsterdam (€13.50):
Another absolutely amazing beer from Westvleteren, they’re two for two now & I’ll hopefully get to try the third beer in the roster sometime in the near future to find out if they can manage the clean sweep. This one was quite a sweet beer with a lot of dark fruits & caramel but the balance remained great & it was a pleasure to drink with a nice alcohol kick giving the beer a warming feel towards the end; excellent stuff.

0,33 l bottle as a souvenir from my colleagues trip to Antwerp over New Years’ Eve, best before 30/10/2017. Looks great: Clear, very dark ruby with a big, frothy, almost stable, tan head. Pleasant, fruity-spicy but not that strong aroma of plums, raisins, dark cherries, port and some citrus. Lovely, sweetish taste of plums, raisins, dark cherries, dark chocolate, toffee, nuts and port, followed by a slowly developing, long, medium bitter and slightly alcoholic and warming finish with a bit of coconut and vanilla. Full body, very creamy mouthfeel, lively carbonation. The aroma is a bit shy but the taste makes up for a good beer although it is not the revelation I expected. A beauty with a fantastic mouthfeel, very round and harmonic even at younger ages. Enjoyed it!

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2015 I may be in the minority on this one but I think this is better than westvleteren 12.

Not sure whether I can add much to these almost two thousand ratings...it’s a lovely cocktail of autumn fruits drying/"decaying" in a barn, sweet, yeasty and oily.... No, I can’t.

Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, vinegar, bread, muscavado sugar, cherries. Taste is light to medium sweet, slightly tart. Medium body, oily texture, average to fizzy carbonation. Very good.
