COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Great looking orange clear pour. Floral citrus grapefruit pine and hopppy taste. Well balanced. Almost a perfect beer in my opinion! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy orange body and a lasting head of white bubbles. Grapefruit hop aroma with some hints of caramel malt sweetness. Citrus rind bitterness in the taste, some floral notes before a bit of sweet at the finish. Very tasty.

Bottled sample. Gold in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of apricot, cut grass, sweet citrus and sweet pale malts. More fleshy stone fruits in the mouth, along with pale and caramel malt, and lemon. Medium bodied with substantial bitterness. I was expecting a sharper and dryer beverage, considering its reputation. Not sure how fresh it it, but consumed only a couple of days after purchase. Ok as is.

Crisp and refreshing. Very citrus and clean. Very detailed hop notes. Tastes like it just came from tap room. FRESH

Bottled 355ml. -Courtesy of MatSciGuy, shared with him and Marko (thanks!). Darker golden coloured, small off-white head, piney nose. Sweet malty, decent hoppy and touch of caramel with mild fruity sweetness in rather bitter finish. Long lasting bitter aftertaste. Nice IPA but not in TOP 5 I’ve had.

Classic ipa. Clear light orange. Citrus, pine, floral. The taste adds lemon and apricot with some caramel malt. Sticky resin and bitter bitter on the finish. Overall, a great strong ipa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear yellow of color with a white head. An aroma of hops, citrus and pines. A flavor of hops, citrus, pines, lemon peel and fresh.

Not sure what all the fuss is about, it seemed kind of weak to me, almost like a session IPA. Orange amber body with decent rocky head. Normal IPA/hop aromas, taste also, and somewhat subdued, less hoppy than a NW IPA. Good, but not great.

12oz can. Clear golden orange with a thin foamy white head. Flavors are pine resin, lemon, apricot, bread, honey, caramel and grass. Medium body, moderate carbonation, oily texture. Sharp bitterness, dry finish. Run-of-the-mill IPA.

Bought in a bottle but I wouldn't have known it - as close to an on-tap taste I've ever had in a bottle. Crisp and deep with taste it feels meticulously crafted. Only a lack of unique flavor or hops prevents a perfect score but as well executed of an IPA as I've ever tasted. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
