COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Btl pours a hazy light brown-red color. Big off white head, with big bubbles that fades fast leaving no lace. Aromas of fruits:prunes, old plums, banana, and a hint of citrus. The smell of caramel, alcohol and fresh baked muffins hit the nose. Tastes of fruit, figs, sweet caramel, earth, yeast and dark bread. Medium body, lively cabination, soft mouthfeel and a sweet yet slightly alcoholic finish. Very good beer,it has a nice malty character that is rich and bold. It has an effervescence about it that makes it very drinkable. I like this beer it is fantastic!

From 75cl, corked/caged, has about 4 inches of headspace in bottle, poured into 16oz Belgian tulip glass

Aroma: sweet fruity, malty

Appearance: amber, clear, massive tan head with good retention

Taste: Medium sweet

Palate: medium body, creamy or sticky texture, lively carbonation, short sweet dry finish

Overall: I’m not a big fan of Dubbels, but this one is exceptional. The aroma has lots of fruity like smells. At first, I thought it was cherries, but after reading the description saying apricots then I’d assume that’s more accurate. The color and body is nice. The taste is malty, smooth, sweet, creamy, and well balanced. If I had to choose one Dubbel, this would be it. Fantastic beer.

Pours a hazy orange brown with a thick head. Body is medium with moderate carbonation. Aroma is fruity with lots of apricot and subtle hint of nuts and some banana. Taste is mildly spicy, with a hint of apple and a hit of cloves. Good beer!

Fairly large off white head, though it diminishes quickly. Beer per se is a tawny color and quite cloudy. Aromas are bready and doughy, along with some fruit, perhaps plum or apricot. Hops are quite mild. Body is medium to full; there is a fair amount of sweetness, though it is masked by pretty lively carbonation. The alcohol is quite apparent. Seems fairly acidic, though it may just be the carbonation. A good beer; interesting in that the yeast seems as prominent or more than the malt.
