2010 bottle thanks to Toby. Pours out a black topped with a small tan head. Nose is rich roast malts cocoa some plum and coffee. Taste is more of the heavy roast malts chocolate cocoa some vanilla and that coffee. We did this with kabert and black Albert aswell all 3.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2016 Thanks to my cousin. We’ve been wanting to try this for a while - it has been in the cellar for 6 years. Lots if grain/bread in the flavor. A little sharp and spicy, with amber-like notes and molasses. Impressive but overrated sorry to say (I think this was the #1 brew at Beer Advocate for a while, but we know how good their ratings are, don’t we?).

[1/30/16] Bottle sample at the Encomium bottle share, after RateBeer Best awards ceremony at Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel in Santa Rosa. Thanks everyone who shared bottles! 2009 bottle. Black. Bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, some oxidation. Still really good.

Bottle. 2009 vintage. Opaque black liquid with small light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, raw sugar, coffee, light vanilla, light bourbon and dried fruit. Taste is light to medium sweet, light bitter and light sour with notes of raw sugar, apples, light wood and bourbon. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Nice but probably too old.

2009 bottle. Pours dark brown with small tan head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong roast, chocolate, wood. Thick mouth, chewy, chocolate, roast, nice sweetness, very nice.

2011 bomber, shared over Christmas. I finally got a chance to try this one after a long wait and a lot of trading. This is really complex, with a surprisingly large amount of malt flavor and sweetness that provides a lot caramel and fruit notes. Surprisingly, though, they never overpower the chocolate and roasted flavors from the darker malts, and everything pulls together extremely well. Big, balanced, and still exceptional, even after 4 years.

Bottle: 2010 vintage. Dark, oily black pour with a fine-bubbled, leathery tan head that forms & dissipates just as quick. Aroma has a nice chocolate & roasted malt base with light hints of coffee & burnt toffee. However there are mild signs of infection. Faint cherry skin, must, wet dog, & some old cotton blanket lie in the periphery. Uh-oh. Surprisingly enough, those do not show up on the palate, & there really isn’t any apparent tartness in the flavor. Roast, coffee, chocolate malt, a touch of woodsy smoke, some licorice, with a slightly bitter & ashy finish. Strange how the nose showed infection while the flavor didn’t. In any case, the flavor wasn’t anything spectacular, either. Pretty standard for a stout. Good, but maybe a touch overrated.

Clownoisseur (420) - Buchanan, Michigan, USA - JUN 13, 2014
2012 bottle. Pours nearly pitch black with some copper hues and a thin mocha cap on top. Breaks into minimal lacing and has some nice legs to it. Aromas of dark fruit sweetness, brown sugar, roasted coffee and a subtle spice. Taste is bold roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate and anise upfront. Some oak, subtle spice, raisin and leather come across the middle. The finish is nice and long. Anise, plum, moderately bitter hops and a slight brown sugar sweetness linger for days. The mouth feel is slightly sticky, slightly oily, slightly silky and 100% smooth. Very balanced beer and worthy of the praise it gets. RIP
