A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

Deep brown, rich, pretty delicious. Not sure how these guys can pack so much punch on the ABV without you noticing - really well balanced strong beer.

Riecht sehr angenehm ist aber viel zu süss und der Alkohol sticht extrem hervor. Einmal ist genug. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18E). Bottle 33 cl - Batch KAD01217A. AROMA: perfumy and spicy alcohol aroma with slight notes of raisins. APPEARANCE: dark ambar with some ruby highlights and clear. Average ivory head with medium-low retention. some lacing. TASTE: faint raisins notes with an absurdly high overall sweetness that lasts from the start of the taste to the finish and beyond, masking the more faint malt notes. low bitterness with a very high sweet finish. PALATE: medium-full body with medium carbonation. some alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a belgian beer that resembles a dark syrup.

1996 bottle drank 04/2015. Aroma of sweet malt, sherry, butterscotch, dust, rich dried fruits. Flavour is heavy sweet. It’s interesting how this beer has developed. It’s way to sweet for my taste, but I understand the appeal for others who enjoy this kind of beer.
